Second only.........and another half in engine, forks, rear shock, swingarm, oil tank, radiator, fuel tank, seat unit, rearsets, bars, levers, etc and more odds and sods than I would want to admit to - part of the reason why I went for another 990R rather than 1290R for the moment.

Its those British winters killing batteries through the whole Kingdom.

Replaced battery only ten days ago - fiver says it's the brown connector.

Scrub that, it'll be the reg/rec that I should have replaced at same time as battery.

Aye, latest OE part seems to be better than superceded OE part, ie one that probably just failed, but best to go with Mosfet replacement - http://www.regulatorrectifier.com/catal ... -rectifier

Same old stuff - broken reg/rec earth cable at battery eyelet but not sure if that was cause or happened removing reg/rec - so replaced reg/rec with old spare and Mosfet ordered.

Good to know it was easy to diagnose and repair.

Did you order the reg/rec from the website you posted? That's a US site right?

Aye, good service and fast delivery last time.

Similarly, have asked Joe for another one of these http://www.cycleterminal.com/horn-kits.html twin horn wiring kits in response to his note re not making anymore for a while - Eastern Beaver, another US, albeit ex-pat, electrical go to, has also stopped doing them - anyone know of another source?

Voltmeter dropped into red zone again but got home OK - swopped out temporary OE reg/rec for new Mosfet but voltmeter stayed in red zone - turned out to be faulty voltmeter so just goes to show once again, always check the bleeding obvious first.

Turns out to be an intermittently failing one year old Mosfet reg/rec, surprising 'cos I'm told (not by supplier) that failure of these is "unheard of" (?) - tried to swop out Mosfet from #1 SDR but found that brown connector to generator was partially burned out - said it before and should have done it, but reg/rec needs to be 'hard wired' to generator, particularly given location on SD/SDR.

I swapped back to a standard battery after three years of persevering with a Shorai. Too many times like this! So far a year of blissful starts and trouble free riding.

Should also add that I removed the starter relay to clean it up and in doing so broke the fragile exposed thin metal tab connecting the positive screw connector to the 30A fuse holder - not noticed this before but it’s another dumb design aspect of a component in a very exposed and vulnerable position - the translucent plastic cap provides very little protection from water and road crap.

So new battery, reg/rec and starter relay required.........

Aye, considered doing something similar a long time ago but not convinced by lithium batteries for big v-twins and no room left for toolkit, alarm, puncture repair kit, etc - looking at relocating battery, starter relay and reg/rec ‘side saddle’ as per Ducati 996 but on lhs opposite coolant overflow tank - reworking/relocating coolant thermostat and hoses not easy though.

Swopped out Evo for #1 SDR round Akra silencers week or so ago - fuel consumption immediately dropped from 40 to 37-38mpg and riding gear permeated with exhaust/fuel fumes - surely difference between two ain’t that significant?

The exhaust tips are different, apparently different enough to cause those things

Same issue here No.47.

A little disappointed in the Mosfet reg/rec. Going to have to find a larger connector than what's supplied and see if it can take the amperage.

Bigger connector just = more crud build up - suggest using pre-soldered shrink fit connectors like these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heat-Shrink- ... wnSHGhq2Wg (not sure if these actual items are the best you can get though)
