Just thinking back at where I was and what I was doing back in January of 05,,I was in a body cast and neck brace, four burst fractures of my back, three neck fractures , couldn't move, after a 20 foot fall backwards onto a concrete floor, forced to lay in bed for four months until therapy to get walking again ( took a year ),,lots of reading time, wife got me a stack of bike mags every month and remembering the first one I picked up showed pic's of this new KTM streetbike called the SuperDuke, the thing looked so cool and orange and got me thinking I'm gonna get me one of those after I sue the site management company that didn't manage the site I almost got killed on,,well it took a year and a half to get back on my feet again and another five with my law team working for me, in the end I won and by that time the SD was stateside and it was good timing as the economy went belly up and SuperDukes were plentiful at a large disscounted price so buy one I did, still stirred one's emotions five years later the same as the first time I laid eyes on it, out in the barn today looking at her you know it still does the same thing to me after all these years, it looks awesome, guess it must have been ahead of it's time huh nothing in my memory come's close.

Did you know about this website before you got your bike? Did you think that It would have been to the states a year sooner. Were you bummed out that the model had changed or were you thinking the newer one looked better. There was a big write up about the bike in its inception in ? Motorcyclist? I'm sitting here thinking that the new 1290 is everything the SD should have become in its evolvement-minus the single sided swing arm. Careful one and four is five 2005 2014

Good story maddog, glad everything is back on track. I understand (as most here do) about your feeling toward the SD.
I am blessed to have the luxury to retain my o6 SD and get a 1290 as well. The 1290 is a great bike but sitting in the shed the other day I found myself staring longingly (or lovingly) at the old girl and I couldnt bear to part with it. Like most here, mods have been done to make it my own and after all it is still a fantastic bike. That might change after a few mods have been carried out on the 1290 and it has been run in to allow full use of the power but at this stage I just as much prefer to ride it as the new one. The 1290 does not seem to have the raw edge of the SD, all the things that make it 'unrefined' in the end just add to it.
So if I find myself takin out the 1290 much more than the SD then I might then look at selling her but until then she will still be a much loved addition to the shed.
