Yo,
So what are the pros and cons of changing your standard 2 seat setup to the SDR single seat setup?
Does the SDR seat keep you in position better under acceleration? How long can you stay in the seat on a long ride?
Lets hear those thoughts as I prefer the look of the SDR...

I've had both and would probably say the sdr seat is less supportive under acceleration due to the shape of it. Plus it's pretty firm with little room to move back.

Hey fewtrees.
I bought an ‘09 990 SDR single seater a few months ago so hopefully I can give you some good feedback.
The SDR single seat is pretty much a thin piece of foam with vinyl covering on a plastic base. Looks bloody good but.
On short rides not a problem. The second you start riding for more than an hour straight you start to feel it. Having ridden only sports bikes for the last 10 years I feel its manageable but went for 4 hour ride a few weeks back and needed to stop at the 2hr mark to stop for a break.
I am actually in the process of getting a corbin seat from a forum member on here and will let you know how that compares to the stock SDR pad.
I am also in the process of doing a 2 seater swap for my SDR. Mainly because if the wife wants to go for a ride she can or if some other attractive lady wants to haha.
I got the KTM 2 seater ergo seat a week ago and trial fitted it. The 2 seater pad is like a sofa compared to the SDR pad like oscarb2b said. Comfort wise you cannot compare when first sitting on it. haven’t ridden with the 2 seater on yet because I am waiting for my new brake light for the 2 seater option (thankyou $10 ebay buy!). The 2 seater’s material is also ‘stickier’ when sitting on it which I think will making moving on it a little harder from what I could tell.
On a track day the SDR seat will be better for moving around on and feeling what the rear is doing I believe. Only one way to tell …
Still the SDR looks good as a single seater and like a proper beast. The only time I will have it as a dual seater is if the wife wants to ride with me or if I know I am picking someone up for a ride (why i am trying to do it on the cheap). Weekend windy roads with mates it will be single seater with either stock pad or corbin seat when it comes along. A day trip to Phillip Island for motoGP … undecided.
