I'm rebuilding my bike after a recent strip down - in parts for over a week. First time in seven years that I've got the old expanding tank problem
Anyone know of a good way to overcome this problem? Two out of the four bolts are doing this, one each side. I had same issue with one of the tank panel attachment nuts and eventually all I could do was saw through the bolt from the side and not bother using it anymore. Obviously cannot really get away with this on the tank mounting bracket.
Advice appreciated.

Lever the nuts out and then epoxy them back would be my approach but that is a heavy handed, inexperienced (of this problem, touch wood) view. Good luck

Can't picture it in my mind but
if you drill the heads off the bolts and remove the hinges will it leave you enough thread to grip? you could then use a spike or old screwdriver to hold the nuts?

I had the old spinning nut problem on my Adv tank, after consulting the forums the consensus was to bang a drill on the bolt, and pull on the panel whilst spinning the insert. It melts it's way out.
It's then a case of glueing it back in.

Maybe a little anti-seize on assembly might prevent future troubles!!

Here's a few pics showing how far out of shape the tank had become. At first it wouldn't even shut down past the triple clamp. The way I finally got the bolt back in - not before chipping off a load of paint from the front of the tank fixing point and scarring my black top triple clamp.

That is nothing mate, when i want to take my tank off i have to remove the triple clamp bolt from the steerer tube, turn the bars 45 degrees right, pull the tank up until the tank nearly hits the right hand brake cables, then straighten the bars, then lift it all the way up.

Mine's also worse off than that. Gotta pry the shit out of it when putting it back on lol

Do you think the amount of fuel in the tank at the time of removal has a bearing on this at all.
My old one was like that, its ridiculous. Would a ratchet strap be a more sympathetic way of pulling it back?

My RC8 is the same, seems worse when it's full of fuel. RC8 has 4 bolts to get in, they're all a bitch!

Be careful forcing the tank back with pry bar ect. I damaged my spare 07 tank doing this and it sprang a leak near the rear mount point due to stress I put it through. I was able to fix with plastic weld but if it goes in the bolt mounts back there you could be screwed.
