Can't wait to get back on the SD!

Latest update.

Seven weeks having a stupid cast on, even if it is a modern plastic one that comes off at night, it's a pain in the arse. For the last three days I have not worn it and have self diagnosed myself cured. Op scars are healing well over the top of the last ones from ten years ago. Hopefully I won't be having more in another ten. I've been walking about OK and everything feels fine, a bit stiff and weird feeling but I can now get my leathers and left bike boot on. Been riding the Yamaha into work but might try the SD tomorrow to give the gears a go. I think it will be OK. Have a hospital appointment on Thursday when I hope they will officially tell me to lose the cast. I will look a bit of a fool if they say, "Well, now you have to wear the cast for another month before doing anything strenuous", but that's life I guess. I will have to put it on for the appointment and act like it's not been off before. Can't wait to get on the SD again, even in this shitty weather.

As you no Bic, the cast only came off my wrist around 6 weeks ago and it felt very stiff and very weird, almost like it wasnt my wrist

Not long been out of my AIRCAST boot. Better than a full cast but still a pain. Must say your scar looks a lot less angry than mine mate!

Ash is right Bic. You know what's going on mate, BUT you have to listen to what your leg tells you and not get carried away. If its ok then go for it but remember pain is there to warn you of injury. Like Ash also says, stretching, flexibility and walking will all be a great start for ya mate.

I hope it all works out.....all we need now is some decent weather dude! Klincky and I are champing at the bit to hit Finchy for a major rag up...you have to join us!!

Thanks guys for your encouragement and support. We'll find out tomorrow if the doctors agree with us all. If they keep me in a cast I think I will recommend that we all become consultants at the Royal London and they are all sacked!

You know I was on a bit of a health drive before - started eating better, watching calorie intake and using a push bike to get to work - and I'd gone from 15 stone down to under 13 in three months? Well, I'm ashamed to say that due to this op and not cycling and Christmas indulgence and no exercise and basically reverting to drinking a bottle of wine every night I am now back to over 14 stone and I think I will not fit into my fantastic modified Dainese leathers anymore.

But that's the incentive. And getting out to Finchy with you guys in the Spring.

Dont worry Bic, you can make all those gains again buddy....you did SO well last year dropping that weight in no time mate. It was inevitable that you'd put it on again with only 1 leg in use.....I think you've done well not putting more back on fella.

Come springtime this will all be a distant memory...as we hurtle our way round those lovely twisties in the glorious sunshine

Good one.

Before I met you Shade.....

I used to wonder which was you in your avatar picture!! Or whether you had a brother or maybe it was a clever bit of photoshop and it was both you. Either way I used to feel sorry for your suspension, ha ha.

Nice one Bic, excellent news.

On the subject of weight loss I'm trying to cut down bad foods etc but damn my sweet tooth and big appetite.

I've managed to drop a little bit since I started training but I'm still just under 14.5 stone, I was 12.5 to 13 stone for years with next to no fat on me, about a stone heavier way back when I used to go to the gym a lot but hitting 30 and then having kids saw a downhill spiral ending with shock horror at nearly hitting 15 stone which I can only attribute to fat, my active lifestyle stalled but my appetite didn't, now I know why those old gits I ride with on the occassional Sunday morning only have toast for brekkie as opposed to the 1-2 bacon and egg sarnies I used to have.

My cholesterol is higher than normal and so I'm trying to cut down on things high in fat like eating more chicken instead of bacon and red meat and cutting down on how much cheese as I always loved a big pile of cheese on my pasta.

My mrs is vegetarian so we do eat quorn a lot anyway which I believe is a healthier option anyway but if anybody has any tips on good things to eat or things to avoid with regard to weight loss and health then any adice is appreciated

For the most part I think one of the biggest parts of the problem has been lack of exercise but I'm getting fitter again with the martial arts training so that should help give me the energy/motivation to make the time for more sporty activities

Jamie, cut out white bread n pasta mate. Switch to brown or wholegrain and limit to 2 slices a day max. If you drink, cut back a lot...ive known people drop tons of weight but giving up alcohol.

Watch your portion sizes too...your stomach should only be the size of your fists clasped together but if you overeat it will increase and therefore take more filling.

I dropped a bit by having soup for dinner 3 nights a week....but that was mainoy cos my training went from 3 times a week to 3 times a month! Luckily this year so far is a bit better, twice a week at the moment. Im hoping when i get an EXC i'll get a bit more exercise.

Nice one Bic, I've been getting no end of jip from my arm. It was fine until the colder weather set in, don't know if it was a coincidence or not but I started to get pain when performing certain movements. Like pushing my thumb over to move the indicator switch.
I think it has more to do with the screws in the plate that stick out the other side of the bone. I'm sure these are rubbing against muscle, or nerves at certain points.
I'm thinking of going back to get the plates removed.

Ben, its gonna hurt more during winter, just a fact im afraid. A friend of mine smashed his wrist when he was 16, hes now 38 and its still painful when cold! ive already noticed that mine is stiffer on colder days (F-NAR F-NAR).

It is worth going back to your consultant and re-Xraying etc if its causing too much pain
