One for the UK chapter.........................

In the light of recent events, looking to buy/lease a new 1290 R through my business, a limited liability partnership (LLP) architectural practice of which I am one of four partners.

Am aware of the HCMR pros (mostly) and cons but not having done this before, has anyone here have any experience of this, particularly re leasing companies (as opposed to just buying from a dealer using a business company equivalent of a PCP), and insurance as my insurer/underwriters can't/won't add the new one to my existing policy as it would be the company's, and not my, property and they don't offer appropriate business use policies?

Will, of course, be rebuilding Trigger's Broom, just more slowly without pressure to get it back on the road as soon as.

Go for it mate and show these 1290 fookers what high-mileage truly is.

I don't know anything about all this company lease stuff. That's not quite true as I have had the benefit of this and had vehicles financed at highly competitive rates through my businesses but it was all done through accountants and boring financial people and I didn't give a fook as to the details - "just give me the keys and let me ride away!"

Sorry to be of no help!

Aye, have had same myself but first time trying to organise it.

Have found a couple of '08 SDRs for sale but at £6k+ , they're overpriced and too far away.

If right one pops up though in next few days.......

Maybe not related as im in Oz but I tried this and had so many drama's with the insurance company underwriting the lease insurance (cant lease a high performance bike as company car etc etc etc) that I told them to get fooked and just payed out of pocket - maybe check this out in your part of the world to save any last minute dramas
good luck mate and hope it works out for you.

Hi Mate,

Rates will differ to cars but principle is the same.

Usually the company pays a deposit (typically between three and six months lease charges up front) and then a monthly charge at an agreed rate. There is an agreed annual mileage allowance and a pence per mile charge should you go over that level which you pay when the agreement terminates.

There will be a charge to your income tax based on the assessed benefit. The company can claim 50% of the VAT on the lease payments back. (or at least they can for car leases)

My last leased car was worth about 35K and cost the company about £250 + VAT. I had a two year lease period and returned the car at the end of that.

There are insurers out there happy to insure leased cars, presumably the same is the case for bikes. Google is probably your friend. My mate had a company bike for years so you are not alone.

Hope that helps

Ta but 'tis quite different for motorcycles - now classed as 'plant and machinery' so can claim back all VAT, offset whole of purchase price against corporation tax, better BiK and no tax limit re running costs - eg http://www.effective-accounting.co.uk/f ... ompany-car

That's nice. How much did you get it for?

Probably too much @ £6k but it was local from a 'mature' multiple bike owner, DUO, clearly looked after and cheaper than others, both private and dealer, with much higher mileage.

Dilemma is whether to leave as is, apart from Akras, temporarily mod it by cannibalising bars, levers, rear sets, air box, slipper clutch, etc from race bike during engine rebuild or embark on full mod with new parts.

Probably first option over winter (but temptation/need to mod likely to get better of me) and then decide whether there's space and budget for two 990Rs and a 1290R alongside the 996S.

If kept OE for moment, should it have rim tape?
