Yeah it is a bit. Lots of the characters have moved on unfortunately. We need a new SD to revitalise the forum.

Been thinking lately..
Sure be nice to have one or two of the electronic/electrical
wizzards jump in for some of the exsisting issues that have come up...
A few guys are so miffed they are willing to dump their S.D.'s for
Jap bikes...
Isn't there anyone out there that is or knows who can diagnose
these gremlins.????
I wish..I were that good...
Might wake up the forum a bit..

If theyre thinking of going to Jap bike's, could be they never should have purchased an SD,,,most Euro bike's have their quirk's,,,,all of the bike's I've owned have had them in one way or another,,leak's , electrical,,bad hardware and such,,never thought of going back to Jap however,,,build quality and materals used in general don't do it for me,,,,a good mechanic would help,,,,dealer I use has a "good" knowlegable LC8 mechanic,,I realise they're far and few between though,,,,,,,,,

Got to agree - at 54k miles, I've suffered, usually more than once, all/most of the (mostly) electrical problems regularly raised here - some solved with knowledge/advice here, others worked out myself and passed on - collective experience and solutions here must be as good as, if not better, than most dealers but it does sometimes feel that some OPs can't/won't be helped 'cos they expect a magic wand.

Not only quiet in forum, quiet on ebay.de and ebay.co.uk as well... There was 2011 SDR with full Akra (EVO), crash protection and other goodies and 600 miles been bought very fast at 7200 quid a week ago, not often you see such attractive things popping up... Well hell with that, but would change my bike for that in a blink of an eye with equal chance... Best SD money can buy...

Jap bikes ---------- V-Twins Hahaha -- yes - here's my OTHER bike , the one i got back into riding with almost 4 years ago. I have literally never had a problem with it and i beat the living hell out of the poor little thing . Honda Reliability ! It's a 1984 Honda Ascot 500V-Twin 6 speed with a whopping 50 hp , but i've smoked guys on 750 ducati's with it. In the twisties the bike's a blast but after 2 years of hard riding and constant wide open throttle i started craving more power and that's what led me to KTM Superduke . Rode the bike on a 1000 mile round trip from San Francisco to Oregon and back too .

i modified the bike cosmetically - cut seat in half and recovered - pulled all the guages off and changed headlight - pulled all the plastic fairing type rear fenders and inner fenders and put the old 70's honda rear fender for the flat tracker look. a few other modifications buy don't want to bore anyone ... But thankfully i have it for when i'm recently going through some electrical woes with the SD i'm still riding ( Here in California where we ride year round ) -------------- The sad news on the little honda is there is Absolutely NO after market performance products - basically STUCK with it as it is. I have 2 extra engines i may try and port the heads on the extra engine , they look pretty choked off.

cheers

Do I have a rare gem or will the beast rear it's head ?

I know what you dudes are saying about Jap bikes but what gets me is if they make a good V Twin they stuff the whole thing up buy making the bike look really gay.
To me the best looking Japanese bike ever was the 2004 to 2006 R1 if they had of put a big V twin in there or a V four then it would have been legendary.
I have owned over 20 Somthing bikes, Now in 2008 I purchased a brand new Triumph Speed Triple this was my first non Jap bike I thought I have heard good things about Triumph so why not get one.
That bike was a piece of crap! I hated it! Also the dealer seemed like he didn't give a rats turd about the problems what got me is you don't know how good or how bad a bike is buy reviews in magazines or talking to other owners of the same bike if you do ask about problems they will just say This bike is great just as good or better than a Jap bike. Then you purchase the crap and find out on a Forum that most dudes are having the same problems as you are and it's not the great none Jap bike you thought you were getting

I too think the most of Guzzi's,,,,,,,I know I rode the wheels off them,,,,they never broke until I fell off and broke em....didn't have to adjust a chain ever,,,ran better when I just installed a Rita ignition,,,breathed better through a pair of uni's instead of suckin bug's through the bellmouth's,,,braked better when I disconected the linked brakes,,,revved better with a lighter flywheel,,,only time they would let you down is when you needed a new battery ][/img]

1978 was a good Guzzi year,,,,,,I also added that 5 quart sump hanging down low,,,,$3600 OTD,,,rode it in every condition and kept the thing absolutly "spotless" I sold it and bought a 83 850LM III,,,really stupid,,,,didn't like it nearly as much as the 78,,something about that thing was just right,,,

The best years were when they came wide open,,no airbox just a set of stack's,,,,after that they went "plastic" everything,,,,smaller carb's,,stuffed up airbox,,odd styling IMO,,,,,first one I wanted was a somewhat rare bird as in a 1975 850 sport,,not many came in that year,,it was a 750 S with a 850 motor,,like $3200 OTD,,,,,LMI 76,77,78,,,,the one you want,,,the newer one's just arn't the same,,,,,,,a friend of mine out in Oregon found one and the thing is mint,,ride it anywhere,,,,the new sport is cool but it need's 850cc,,,,,and 80hp,,,,,,

What I like about the Guzzi is the simplicity of the whole thing.
There are no radiators no bucket and shims to contend with when doing a valve adjustment they have the good old set up undo lock nut adjust with a screw driver lock nut down and your done.
No drive chain to clean adjust and lube.
I love the way the bike moves around when idling it feels really agricultural I think what this bike does is remind me of bikes of old and what a motor bike should
really feel like.

The way I'm crapping on the next thing there will be one in the Garage.

I like guzzi's, but everytime I hear the name it makes me crack up because in the balkans guzzi means ass. Translated it would be motoass, which I guess is kind of an accurate description. My sister's husband has a guzzi, so I always tease him if he rode his ass bike to work.

Im only new here but I have been on forums for the last 18 months since I got my bike license. Some are more active than others, and obviously the state based or model based are quieter than others due to the smaller target market. Don't know what this place was like before but Ive taken a lot of good info from here and appreciate the members contributions.

And on the topic of the "can't use the power of a thou" on the road argument. I used to buy into it too but I’m now in the "who cares camp". I mean you can’t use the power of a Ferrari, Porsche, M3 or the new Golf R for that matter but they still sell. Why, because they are just beautiful machines, a credit to the human civilisations excellence in engineering. I rode a mate’s new ZX10R and another’s R1 the other day and loved them both. Sure you have to be a little more diligent with the throttle but they were simply awesome. Stick them in a lower gear and hang on, but you all know that. Here in Brisbane with the ridiculously low posted speeds I can be breaking the law in first gear and in license losing territory in second on my SD. I understand the torque/acceleration is in the lower range on a twin but I love winding out the SD’s throttle to hear that growl from the Yoshis and that puts me at risk all the time! I used to do the same on my Daytona and sure I’d do the same on a thou, I just like going fast

You ranting again AZ

The trouble with 1k sports bikes and the like is it don't take much to be doing 200 plus kph just think 160 kph in first gear.
Don't get me wrong I love the power of these things but with the crap roads and cops it's not a whole lot of fun riding one on the street anymore.
Now on the track now that's different.
Maybe I'm just getting old but I could still have fun on a 250 these days.

I got thinking AZ I've done the 1k sports bike thing I've owned a 05 R1 plus a 06 gixxer 1k plus a Hayabusa so maybe I've just got the whole power thing out of my system.
They are great fun!
But these days I'm going the other way lol!!
The reason I got the SD was to slow myself down but at times it seems it's not slow enough
