RALLYING legend Jari-Matti Latvala has said that Andrea Dovizioso is a better rally driver than Valentino Rossi.
Rally driving appears to be the in-thing for MotoGP riders this off-season, as Andrea Dovizioso finished second to former WRC champion Petter Solberg at the Bettega Memorial Rally.
Following on from Valentino Rossi's impressive performance at the Monza Rally, where he finished second to Sebastien Loeb, Dovizioso demonstrated his competitiveness behind the wheel of Ford Fiesta WRC. The Tech 3 rider was able to beat Mini driver Kris Meeke and Jari-Matti Latvala, to make it to the final showdown against Solberg. The Italian came close to beating the former WRC champion, only losing out in a tie-break that Solberg won.
The rally drivers lauded praise on the MotoGP rider, Latvala said, “He has done a really good job and he was improving very quickly. We spoke together about the areas where he can brake late and which gears to use: this kind of thing. It would be good if he did some events in the future, like Valentino Rossi did. For sure he has the basic talent.” Solberg added: "this guy [Dovizioso] is much better than Valentino Rossi as a rally driver."
The Bettega Memorial Rally is one of the main events at the Bologna Motorshow and is dedicated to former Lancia factory driver Attillo Bettega, who died during the 1985 Tour de Corse.
