Hey chaps,

Just got me a GOPRO HD what good editing software is there for a PC? do I have to pay for something good? kinda reached the limits of windows movie maker.

Any other tips or advice?

Can you take good "screen snap shoots" running 720p 60fps? or would I be best off in full 1080, bit behind the times when it comes to techy stuff.

I leave mine as MPEG4. It's a better and newer video standard. Sony Vegas is meant to be really good for PC. I have a copy you can have.
720p 60fps will be sharper movement wise but of course won't blow up as big. 1080p chews through cards and editing real time may slow your PC down a bit if its not decent spec.

Ah excellent dude would appreciate a copy, I guess sony vegas would allow MPEG4, presume suitable for PC? Will shoot PM.

Just looking at laptops, took a trip to Currys earlier as realised my old laptop just is not upto task. Still undecided what to get but need something with 4GB storage and I5 processor (im lead to believe) for £450 max.

I would only use it for said task, and looking on t'internet, think I have may get this:

Not bothered about looks but if anyone can suggest a better spec at similar price.......

The only problem with budget PC/laptops is they don't have a dedicated graphics card. All the work is done by CPU.The i5 is a quality one though and 4gb of ram should be ok as long as you don't want to do more than 2 things at once. 500gb hard drive will keep you going for a bit but I'd recommend getting an external one as video fills it up fast.

I cant see me doing more than two things at once on it, so hopefully it will be good? I cant justify anymore for something im just dicking around with.

TBH once I have got a vid done I would probably just save it all and burn it onto a DVD and delete it, but an external drive would work.

I use PowerDirector for its simplicity on PC, although it's buggy. I have a copy of Vegas, but haven't had the chance to learn it very well. Other vids I've seen from Vegas are top-notch, but that also comes down to the editor

Good luck on the laptop, mate. Editing is one thing, rendering is a real test of the computing power.

720 has a wider angle of view on the GoPro than 1080 giving a distinctly different "vibe" for the image despite the res difference. Blowing a frame grab is pretty low-res by digital still camera standards, although that depends on what size screen you're viewing it on.

ex:
720 x 1280 video resolution = 921,600 pixels = 0.92 megapixels
1920 x 1080 video resolution = 2,073,600 pixels = 2.07 megapixels
