Group buy of a damaged SDR?

There's an '07 SRD come up on Fleabay.

If I was flush I'd consider buying this for spares but I'm in the process of buying a house so need all the cash I have at the moment. But I was thinking if there are a few others on here who are looking for things then maybe we could form a little coalition and do a group buy. What I want is the frame, front forks, (not the triple clamps), and complete headlight/clocks assembly. But there's a complete mint SDR engine there with throttle bodies and most of the exhaust and I know people are after the black swing arms all the time.

I'm not inflexible about what I want off it - except for the forks, that's what I really want.

Anyone out there interested? If so post up here and we'll see if there is a deal we can maybe work out.

Also I don't have a van for pick up so we'd need to account for that.

ambitious, and i'm afraid I'm out...

but why do you want the frame? if it's just a swap to get yours orange, surely it's not worth the hassle of all the VIN crap, and the cost, when with all the work you'd have to do to complete the swap you could just powdercoat your original frame anyway?

Id be intersted in the whole thing as a project if I had the cash, why do all the good things come up at the wrong time?

Wonder if the forks are bent though? Might be worth asking if he crashed avoiding or if he crashed into.

Why the forks Bic? They are the same as yours aren't they??

I'm just thinking about the future. Not going to sell this bike ever, like it too much and done too many mods. I'd never recover the investment and anyway it will be one day a classic. So my philosophy is to buy another for spares. I'd always have a spare set of forks and frame and an engine on the shelf in my perfect garage set up because they're the most expensive bit to find and replace if they're damaged in a crash. When I had Kawasaki triples I had anything up to three bikes in bits to cannibalise when I needed to. And just think of all those hundreds of little bits and pieces that you never have to buy again.

Klink, if I had those fork legs I'd swap them over straight away 'cos they have black bottoms!

I'm in the same boat m8. No way I will sell my SD for exactly the same reasons. No one will ever want to pay me what its worth to me. I have put so much love and sweat in to that bike and it still makes me laugh and grin every time I ride her.

The only other thing I may ever change on mine now is switching to the 07 onwards forks so I could fit the radial brake callipers. They rarely come up at a reasonable price though.

What do you think it will go for eventually?

Doesnt want to get much above 3k to become unviable. I reckon an 07 SDR is worth about 5k, less 25% for a Cat c/d = 3750. I reckon anyone putting that back on the road will do a grand, unless they spend a year or more waiting for cheap bits on ebay. If it only goes for a track bike it could be done cheaper but will be worth less also. I am not sure what could be recouped in parts but I imagine once the big bits are sold you will be sitting on a lot of odds and ends for a while and selling them off over the long term.

Agreed luke.

Just had a look and it's now gone over 3K with six bidders so I'm out.

Was only interested if the whole package could be got for 2K or less. You never know with these things, it could have been viable with no other interest but there's obviously punters out there who want if for other reasons maybe and would be willing to pay this much. If I had no bike I think this is a really good way to get an SDR back on the road but whoever the winner is I don't envy them trying to get hold of a good subframe at a decent price - they seem to go for over 250 - 300 quid second hand . ( for a bit of steel tubing and ugly welds!!!)

No worries, I will always keep looking for these opportunities.
