Rudyard Kipling
AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.
We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.
We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.
With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.
When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."
On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."
In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."
Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

I am going to ask something while i risk being banned or worse being ignored. I am really serious about it so please if you respond show me the same courtesy.
The U.s.a is a reasonable young country, when i stayed there for over a year ( i played baseball, but was not good enough, UCLA). I got the feeling that a lot of people felt thereselfs better then the Italiens, Spanish,Greeks, Irish etc. How come, because if what i learned at school was right all of the forefathers came from the "old" countries. From where came that patriotism ?
I also ended up in mexico and people there were talking a lot about "the old country " meaning Spain where there ancesters came from, and they were as proud of their origin as of what they accomplished in their new homeland.

I think its best to keep blind patriotism off a motorcycle forum, there is no country I know of that is worth being patriotic to,
Not fooking one, I am British yes, but you will never catch me flag waving or beating a fooking drum, I am too smart and have too much self respect to ever lower myself to that level, I am a member of the human race and we all live on this little planet together, no one is superior or inferior to anyone else in my eyes, if I am going to fight for or stand up for something it will be freedom and the defence of this little planet and every living thing on it

Yes, I did edit my post.
No, I don't want to continue going down this path of BS. I have my share in real life being a pediatric hem/onc rn. I come here for fun and comraderie. This thread is far from it. I'm done. On to better things.

I celebrated 4th of July in true Yankee fashion... first I installed these on Ms.SD
Then I winged it to Fabulous Las Vegas.. lost money, over-tipped big chested waitresses, and partied on...
Rented this and burned through some major fossil fuels... and tyres
Badass
Efffin' hot
Vote wanker for Judge
Show me a place I can live better than than this and I'll move there, contribute to society and be happy!

One of our so-called "Founding Fathers" (and also a self-considered British subject for the first 30+ years of his life), warned "Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism." On this, I couldn't have agreed more with George Washington. I find but a few things more disgusting. Patriotism is a full time endeavor, not just ridiculous flag waving on the occasional national holiday when everyone else is doing the same, or when a national tragedy occurs.
And from a more contemporary American patriot “A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.” (the late Edward Abbey). That stated, I'd somewhat expected the 2nd Amendment folks to chime in on this one ... lol, as if that's the only thing that distinguishes us from our British (and other european) cousins.
Thanks for the "artwork" PBRnr!
