Oh and a good pair of Merrells as well. And for those of us divided by a common language that pants as in underwear not trousers.
Still 650+ miles on the SD in four days round some of the greatest roads that the UK has to offer was more than enough compensation.
Here is how I managed it. I packed my gear into an old Umbro or Nike type back pack / day bag and strapped this onto my pillion seat using a bungee cargo net. All seemed well but in snuggling into the riding position I must have pushed the bag back a bit. This put the bottom of the bag containing my favourite pair of Merrells directly in line of the hot exhaust gasses leaving the Arkas. This burnt two fairly neat round holes through the bag and trainers. The residual heat was also enough to fuse the waistband of my underwear bundle into a single polymer mess.
Surprisingly difficult to find new underwear on the fly in rural Wales by the way. Makes you wonder what the locals do…..
So I guess my question is what do the more competent and organised of you do for luggage. I would especially be interested in pillion pack suggestions as I’m not big on tank bags especially as it need fuel more or less immediately you moving!
Incidentally it was the longest run I have done on the SD and I will share a few thoughts on it when I catch up with the pictures that would make it a more interesting read. In the mean time bring on the luggage suggestions.

A mate done a similar thing on his DR600, only problem was he only realised it when he felt flames on his back which gave him enough time to pull over and watch luggage and bike go up in flames

any of the Kriega US series bags will work on the SD, the differing sizes used to be just combinations of 20 litre and 10 litre units attached to one another
.... the US40 (20 litre and 2x 10 litres) seems pretty popular as it can also be used a 20, 30 or 10 litre tailpack ........waterproof and very durable gear

I've used the US30 (1x US20, 1x US10) a few times, but normally only use the 20.
As long as you make sure the straps are tight and the bag/s dont move before you set off, then any combo will work, just depending how much kit you need to haul about
