Hi,

My new wife wants to ride a bike but she's a crazy chick and I've seen her do some real shaky moves on her 125 already.. I hope that an intercom will let me pass on some valuable timely info at the right time before she wipes herself out..

So do you recommend anything - budget not an issue as I'd rather have a system *THAT WORKS* as my beloved is rather important to me.

Thanks in advance..

If you have free calls on your phone a simple headset might work, that way you can have twoway communication all the time

I just ordered at set of SENA BLUETOOTH SMH10R headsets. My son just got his motorcycle permit and I'm thinking like you. I'll try to remember to let you know how they work.

Of course, sons, like wives, seldom listen so it's probably a waste of money.

I run a Sena SMH10, probably best thing about the Sena's is that they are now compatible with other makes of headsets. the SMH10R is probably the better way to go as it has a far lower profile.
Intercoms make a great addition to not so confidant riders, experience will spot a hazard and can easily pass it on. On the down side you do lose some of the serenity that MC gives you but then there is always the volume button.

+1 for the SMH10. My girlfriend and I have a set, and several of my buddies also use them. They worked a LOT better than I expected they would... I should have bought a set years ago.

I have the old Scala Rider which has been a good system. Not as much range as I would like but the new one is supposed to be better. Super rugged in the weather and still works perfectly after years of daily use during the motorbike courier days.

I've always been interested in getting an intercomm, would think it would be real handy. Always wondered if they can communicate between different brands?

But then I realise that I hardly ride with other company, so would be a waste of money....... I need more biking friends )

I had a SENA system and found it wasn't amplified enough to hear over helmet wind noise. Make sure you have a quiet helmet, mine is a Shoei and just to noisy.

My wife and I use Scala G9's and they have survived thousands of miles relatively trouble free. Highly recommend them or most any modern headset system. Definitely improves safety and the joy of riding with someone special.

I borrowed a Sena SMH5 for the weekend as I was riding the length of the UK in 24hrs for a charity and wanted the wife and the organisers etc to keep in touch. Very impressed actually. I played music while riding, a first for me, and had conversations at up to 90 without having to shout at all.

I can only imagine the higher spec models are superb

I have multiple Sena's and the Newly released SMH20S on the way. These (IMHO) are the best supported bluetooth headsets out there today. They work incredibly well for everything, Intercom, Phone Calls, Music and GPS routing directions. As someone mentioned he latest firmware release supports compatibility with other manufactures intercoms (I haven't personally tried this yet). Sena support is awesome, they update their software continually and I've had them send me spare parts at no charge.

For those that say they have volume problems, it's almost always a case of making sure the speakers are properly mounted in your helmet so they align with your ears. Just because you pop them in the helmet ear pocket doesn't mean that's where your ears are. All of mine generate enough volume to be heard through custom ear plugs at over 80mph with no problem. They can also be used with earbuds if you prefer and avoid the whole speaker thing all together.

I've got the Scala rider g4. Works great but has a few downfalls. Any music at high volume starts to sound crackly. Pain to get paired with phone sometimes. Mic is large and in the way (may just be my helmet). Difficult to use until you are very familiar with it.

Worked great up to about 90mph. Past that I picked up wind noise from his mic.

I think the g9 addresses all the complaints I have about the g4. I think I may try it out soon.
