Noticed a couple of nice RC8Rs at a recent track day and started trawling for another bike .... that I can't justify
Saw new prices in the USA around the $16.5k mark which is about $9k less that what they expect us to pay in Oz.
By comparison, a Kwaka ZX10R is about $19k; a RSV4 R is $23k (Factory $29k); R1 is $20k and they all have a few more goodies than the KTM
How do things compare in your country.
Maybe I need to head to the US and freight one back just for track days?

If you can show proof that you have owned it for 12 months then all is good.
You don't have to have been there.
If you want a tracker then you need a race license to bring it in.
No duty only 10% GST. my 2008 SDR cost me $9600 all told shipped to Perth.
Another option is to ship a rolling chassis and in a different shipment bring the motor.. All legal and able to register with the appropriate paperwork.
I feel for the Aussie seller as I'm trying to do the importing thing and he government slugs you big time.

Is it a tax tarrif on imported goods that causes the huge discrepency?
It seems that Aus. would import much more than it exports. Surely there are benefits in the form of less taxes collected in other means and what shows up as a seemingly high tax, is just looking at to small of the overall picture?
If you have high duty tax and no sales tax or property tax or income tax, it may be unfair to look at only one aspect.
That said, few would state that their taxes are too low on any continent.

They say it has something to do with volume,we (Aus) buy 100 per year they (US) will by 1,000,000 (not talking Super Dukes )
Does make me wonder though as SD`s are about half the cost in the US, surely they don`t buy that may to justify a discount this large from KTM ?
To try and protect local sales a few manufactures such as KTM and HD have told there dealers that they cannot sell to overseas customers.
