sorry bout the weird word shaking in the video, was my first youtube upload. It offered to "optimize" the video for me, fix colour and shaking etc. and it made it all weird. Might re upload it.
Anyway just had these pipes delivered from 41KS in Estonia. Only 6 working days to Australia. Installed them with the baffles in, 30 min test ride and I was immediately impressed. Awesome Noise, nice and bassy, and I instantly noticed a change in the engine's character. I have not had it remapped yet but the engine already feels stronger and more free revving. Low speed corners I noticed I could use a higher gear and pull smoothly away from 2k, I would normally be covering the clutch at this point, while getting a bit of chain snatch and some engine jerkiness.
The sound with baffles in was amazing to ride with. Loud without being over the top, very throaty and a lot of bass. After my ride I got home and my neighbour was out the front. First comment was "wow, that sounds a hell of a lot better, is that with the baffles out?". No says I, "I reckon you should try it without the baffles" he said. I reckon he was right, so I wheeled her into the shed and set about removing the baffles.
All done, still inside the shed, decide to give her a test fire. Turn the key, hit the button and my first thought was....
fook ME DEAD!! That is freaking awesome.
I could feel the exhaust beat through my feet and chest. The walls of the shed trembled, the ground rumbled. The missus comes into the backyard to observe, all she can say is "Jesus Christ!", The neighbour and his wife come outside and make similar exclamations. In the confines of the shed starting the bike had just become an event.
Swing a leg over and off we go. The Duke feels alive, like some sort of carnivorous predator. The noise and energy from the exhaust is consuming. You can feel every combustion process through the bike. Accelerating hard bought not only the thrill of speed but the aural experience as well. It's intoxicating. There is crackle, pop and burble when you back it off. At the lights it rumbles and scares little old ladies.
So at the moment I am riding it sans baffles and enjoying every moment. Not sure how it would be on a long ride, yet to ride her into work either so it will be interesting to see how a 5am ignition will go down
