it couldn't be more ugly if it was hit in the face with an axe…….. and 160hp….. thought the race bike had more than that?….. so its just the stylist and the person who decided to detune it that need lining up in front of a wall for the firing squad then…...

Set of straight bars on a scruffy 1000rr and some body work removal would achieve much the same (or better).

It's not that I don't like - In fact I'm certain I would like it but it seems closer to it's sports bike donor than the SD does to the RC8.

Bloody good price though, might swing a few SD fanciers that way.....

So is that all it is? Apparently not. According to BMW’s Product Manager, Joseph Mächler, the firm first tried simply taking the fairing off an S1000RR and giving it straight bars, but testers were perpetually on one wheel. Three years later, the S1000R has undergone quite a lot more development. However, it will still go everywhere on one wheel if you want it to.

Here comes the marketing vs product vs price. 1290 SDR is pushed and talked like any new bike never before. Then comes BMW, takes its best street/race product, makes it naked, prices it RIGHT and voila - please do check the sales summaries next year at the same time

PS. BMW has best direct throttle response ride by wire, ride modes switching on the go etc etc. And the name.

Source (BMW ?) - ? And are those rear wheel numbers? Are the numbers from the "sport" (wheelie-machine) model?

I ask, because the number for the RR seems a bit high for being measured at the rear wheel.

If it's legitimate RWHP, 158 is more than I need/use for anything - ever. Otherwise, subtracting the usual 15%, 134HP is a big "whatever".

And frankly - the S1000R far more visual appeal to me than the Tuono, but I'm sure it won't match the V4's engine music.

Should be damn entertaining to see what folks measure from the 1290 SD.
