Need advice on buying a NEW 08 SD

I thought I had everything covered on the NEW 08 I was buying, then the dealer tells me about dock fees and prep fees, and shoots the price up another $600.00 US.. What is a fair price in US dollars for a NEW leftover 08 Super Duke? I just did not want to be buried in it so I could add extras like exhaust and other goodies. Any advice would help. THANKS

It's tough to find anything new less than $9K out the door these days. I was able to find it cheaper slightly used with 2K miles on it I think because the dealer was getting sick of watching it sit on his lot. You might be able to save around $2K if you find one used in good condition, but not much less than that. I would say pretty much anything 1000cc 2008 or newer won't sell for less than $7K otd.

Not sure how it works in your neck of the woods but at the end of the day the bike has been sitting there for a loooooong time e.g. 4 years.
Try to wiggle out of the extra fees by the " I might reconsider" line.
Still a good buy but rather spend the $4 on bling than on the stealer.

2 and 1/2 years ago I got my 2008 with zero miles for $7,700 + $500 in setup and shipping and doc fees for a total of $8,200. At the time the dealer was sitting on something like 6 SD's because the economy had crashed and no one in the States was buying large displacement sport/play bikes like the SD. I'd say if you could get the SD in the low $8,000 range including the dealer add-ons that's pretty fair. One thing, with a bike that's been on the floor that long I'd be interested in the condition of the tyres. Even though it's been in a climate controlled dealership I'd still have some concerns about dry rot.

What a lot of fooking shite.

Mate. Buy a Superduke. It's just a bike. Nothing fancy. Just a naked 120bhp v twin that's easy to ride and a lot of fun.

It's not even that fast tbh. Not intimidating or that. You'll be fine.

I bought a brand new ZX6R as my 1st bike and heard all that pish too. Ooohh, you'll die, it's too fast. Nonsense. It wasn't even that fast either and I didn't spontaneously combust, crash, or die in any way.

Gotta side with Viking... My '07 SD is my first street bike with minimal but proficient dirt bike riding previously. (lifelong gearhead though) I noticed the snatch and realised after many rides that it 'went away' just from my throttle hand and brain 'learning' the control requirements...

I did a ton of homework and bought the right bike the first time. Fun light and quick around town, great for touring and my first track day in the near future...

I do agree with SDNerd on the lack of experience on the street is the bigger problem, I didnt realise how 'lazy' my driving in a car was compared with the focus required to 'live' on the street aboard a bike.

Get the SuperDuke!!

Thanks for the feedback, I was just asking what other people have paid for them so I would have some comparison. I've owned 18 bikes in my 44 years of riding and racing, so I know how to buy a bike, and how to ride one. I also raced a SD in a Twins Class way back in 2007 for the owner of the bike who was hurt in a fall, and fell in lust with the bike immediately. At the time the SD was 13K and I could not spend that much, so I just kept putting it off until I found a few NEW leftover 08's this year. The price they are asking is $8,800 plus the $600 prep, and dock fees. I've never had to pay prep, dock, or any other fees when purchasing, and this does not included the $650.00 for the shipping company and sales taxes when I get it home. By the time everything is settled I'll have spent $10,950 on this bike!! It is in new condition with the 24K 24month WARR. tyres look great( in pics ) but they are 4 years old.
