I was wondering how this forum came to be, when it happened and who helped out?
Who do we have to thank for this great contribution

This is even before Bert's time, let's see what he can come up with.
I believe Klinck mentioned at one stage Boyse or so was the first member and the sadly late legend and talented SD technician Dr F must have been an early member surely!

He did show his face about 6 months ago. He PM'd us mods to change his password as he couldn't login. Said how pleased he was the site was still going strong. Not heard from him since though.

Just a bit of curious. Does anyone know of a company that sponsors a website so as to get valuable insight into thier products, without being connected in a direct manner?
Someone could be watching from inside. If the originator of the site, and keeper of the keys, looses his or her password, does this not mean that they may no longer be stationed at the hardware involved?
Can a website server transfer all "production" onward and be removed from the flow of electrons?
There was a fair bit of new KTM parts offered for sale out of Greece a bit back. I found it odd that new parts were shipped out of Greece, Did Someone have a connection with KTM?

I've made the point before that it is naive to think that there isn't some guardian angle looking over our shoulder
at all of our conversations whether it be on this forum or any other internet medium. That's just modern life. In
fact I heard a guy talking on the radio who had worked for MI6 talking about the fact that in the old days they used to have to pay people
to collect information about people of interest. These days via things like Facebook Etc people just provide all of
the information that various agencies could possible use for FREE.

To answer the question about the server, as far as I know it is located on a grid server physically located in
a building off Lafayette Place, Culver City, California.

Dribble there's no conspiracy at all. My point is nobody needs to engineer this stuff people just voluntarily reveal
all types of information about themselves most of which nobody has any interest in. But if you are a person of interest
then it is very easy to find out information about you.

In the case of the SD website I'm sure there is some unknown benefactor who just turns a blind eye to our usage
because they are a supporter of SD's but generally there's no such thing as a free lunch. I'd personally be really
pleased if that benefactor was KTM as it would indicate that they are interested in what we think. Realistically
I don't think it is them.

Woah, so we're all happily sharing stories and info, blissfully ignorant of the fact that some great benefactor is paying for it all.
And now it's like we've all just taken the "red pill" and it's freakin me out.

Well I eventually had a moment to spare and took the Red pill and found out the truth. The moderators could
have shortened the journey but I guess they are bound by confidentiality ... The following is the link to the truth:

"We watch The Matrix and concur with Neo’s decision to go for the red pill. Who wouldn’t? Once start suspecting you’ve been lied to, the ground under your feet starts being shaky. You expect the worst, and need to know the truth otherwise you are slowly driven to insanity. However, this has little to do with truth and a lot to do with your perception of it. Even if you’re fully aware of reality, you might start suspecting you’ve been lied to and it will feel exactly the same, especially if you’re generally of distrustful nature.

But what if we never found out about the truth? What if we spent our entire lives believing a sweet convincing lie instead of an unpleasant truth, without ever suspecting we’ve been lied to? What’s the difference between such a lie and the truth, as far as we’re concerned?

I don’t care much about the truth anymore. But if someone wants to lie to me, it better be a pretty damn good lie, one that I will never suspect or find out about. If it walks like a truth and quacks like a truth, well…
"

Our mystery person will recognise this but it aint Lea. I'm not telling because I respect the desire for anonymity.

We did manage to get hold of him when we updated the server software. Can't remember who the member was who did the upgrade now but he finally contracted Angelo to get the password to have full access to allow the upgrade. I think that member has disappeared now. Angelo however updated his email so we should be able to reach him if required in the future. When we get closer to the June date one of us will contact him and make sure we get the domain paid for again.

If you can't contact him before then I think I have a current email address.

Be very interesting to know how much it's costing per year to host. Can't imagine its big bucks, traffic is pretty light for a forum.

I was just sitting here thinking how much I appreciate this forum and began to wonder who's supporting this thing?
Found this thread and the mention of a June 2013 renewal date but no further news or discussion about it.
Do we know any more than we did in Feb 2013?
Forgive me if I haven't searched deeply enough...
