Powder coating adventure

I've got a spare subframe and engine hangers that I keep meaning to get powder coated satin black but since I moved out of London I wanted to find a local place that was good and haven't had the time. Looked up a few possible names on google and found somewhere called Colour Coatings in Edenbridge which is only a ten mile blast down country lanes from me.

Had the time today so set off with parts in a rucksack and high hopes. When I got there it looked a bit dubious, a few guys came over from a neighbouring unit and started looking at the SD and I wondered if it would have wheels when I returned. But when I walked into the office the first thing I saw pinned to the wall was a signed letter from Kevin Schwantz's GP team back in the day personally thanking this company for sterling work done for them! That's all the references I need!

When I said I wanted satin black finish they hmmed and haaad and came out to check the bike over, only to tell me I didn't want 'satin' finish, what I wanted was a 30% up from matt towards full gloss if I wanted to match most of the SD frame. So, satisfied that they will be doing a good job I left the parts and will be picking them up in a week.

I'll post up what they look like when I get them back.

Not as odd as it seems considering that Suzuki Moto GP team was based in Edenbridge and still has a premises in the same block at HM Racing.

Anyway, at least you have found some better roads. Pretty much all the B roads around Edenbridge are fun to ride. Take it easy though as some of the bends are a bit unpredictable and the council's signage of the fact is pretty random.

Ha ha Luke! Was going to mention this. Last time I went to Edenbridge was to HM and I remembered the road from Lingfield there - some great b road bends. But at present they have dug up the surface on EVERY bend on that road so it's good tarmac on the straights and then a ramp and then that surface that is graded into fine grooves that make your bike squirm. In the old days my bikes would be almost uncontrolable on this surface but the SD, to be honest, almost didn't notice it.

Was going to pop into HM for a natter but it was soooo hot and I was in full leathers and it was only bearable riding over 40mph speeds so didn't bother. Thought I'd coordinate a visit there when I pick up the bits in a week or so.
