Hi,

Has anyone got any experience of the Carbon belly-pan produced by Replicast? They used to make a lot of them for the Battle series bikes but now you have to order them as a special. They still have the moulds but don't keep any ready made stock. Just wondered if anyone had bought a belly-pan from Replicast and whether the finish, fixings and general fit are good quality etc. (should be at the price they are quoting).

Not sure about the carbon version Bic but Gordon said the standard version is a very tight fit with titanium headers. Too tight and there is real risk of burn through.

No experience of the cf version but if it's the the same shape as the standard one, it will need to be cut around the side stand, for road use, and lower crash bungs, if fitted - as supplied (for race use) the rear lhs fixing is to the side stand base bracket - I bought an extra rear rhs fixing bracket and modified it for the rear lhs - all pretty straightforward with fb but not cf (?) - have just replaced my original one after almost 60k miles and have another spare just in case - suggest you call Replicast if you intend it for road use.

Ah right. I will have to see if there is a way to give the bigger headers a bit more room with my full system then.

Ah, Gordon. I did think about you but I thought it was a Skidmarks one!

Well, I rang Replicast a while ago and they seem like quite a responsive company to deal with - I got to talk with the guys who lay up the fibre and actually make the things. I've got big bore pipes on too so reckon that if I buy one I will ask them to reinforce the internal surface where it needs to be more heat resistant and then make sure I line it before any damage is done. Have you got any photos of the place where it burns through so I know exactly where to work on?

It's a shape you have to cut into the edge though for the side stand and crash bobbins because the carbon will ideally need some sort of gel finish applied so the fibres are not left exposed to the elements.

But anyway, from all the comments it sounds like one should be prepared for a bit of fettling and adjusting to make things work properly. It's good to know because I'd normally expect something like this to fit perfectly like Akro carbon parts.

By the way, got your PM. Will reply, just stacked at the moment.

No rush at all, i know how busy you are. Just keeping you up to date. I think if they're laying a carbon one they'll make it perfect though due to the money thats in it.

Hey Cheesie,

Do you have any pics of the cut out required for the sidestand on the left hand side? I mean, I can work it out easy enough but it would be usefull to see what needs to be done beforehand so I could maybe have a chat with Replicast before they make it and get them to thicken up the material in that section or something. Same with the cut-outs for the crash bobbins.

Gordon, maybe you have some shots of this do you? (I know not the sidestand cut out, obviously).

You can have my old one if that helps and compare it to my spare 'virgin' one.
