Dont know about the rest of the country, but it seems this time of year the councils all decide to re surface certain roads in Sussex.
What pisses me off is that they seem to use shit loads of lose gravel and apply no tar to stick it all in place, so you come around a bend to see a little sign and then JESUS CHRIST.............. you see piles of lose gravel saying try to stay up right on this

yeah we have that here too, not sure what the deal is!
it seems like the most stupid idea when there are motorcycles that use the road. ive been fortunate enough not to go down... yet!

Yeah that kind of road surface can only be laid in the summer due to the temps, right PITA.

Same in Kent on the B roads at the moment.

Around my part's they use sand to cover the tar,,,luckily I live on a "state" hi-way and they do a proper re-surface with real asphalt rolled down smooth,,only the wagon path's get the liquid, sand treatment,,,,,town by town,,,,

It's cheap cheap cheap guys. A fraction of the cost of tarmac and laying it. It is a fooking death trap on bikes though

I failed to mention ,when the state does the new asphalt thing , as a preparation they "groove" the old stuff first,,so the new will stick well,,,,,two inch groove's running down the entire surface,,make's for a thrilling ride to say the least,,

i've hit some of that gravel stuff at way too fast a speed, in the past. it's like aquaplaning. luckily stayed sunny side up

I came onto this type of surface last year.

Hit it just after a sharpish right-hander, just about to go into a "chicane" under a bridge, with no signs before the surfacing. I near dam shit myself!!!!

They screwed up one of our favorite twisty bits using that shite. So far, no one has gone down, but we lost one R1 radiator to a stone.

Just had a slide on loose gravel today on a freshly "surfaced' road here in Hertfordshire. Very scary. Fortunately it didn't go massively wrong. If you're passing through Northaw watch out.
