The bike I started on a '77 GS750. Tore into the top end to rebuild it and found it has Pop Yoshimura pistons bored over to almost 850cc's so I'm currently building it up to look like a skunk (GS1000)
As it sits now (ignore the exhaust it was a test fit for a period correct Yoshimura)
What I'm shooting for:

Yes. 2007 KTM 540exc. First year street legal from the factory. My bike started off as an orange 450cc. I put black plastics on it and a 540cc big bore kit. Absolute torque monster! Loved hill climbs.

I tried to teach her how to ride a bike (Clutch, gears) and she learned for one afternoon, and then she had no more interest.
We used to ride around on a Chinese Schwinn 150cc scooter (12" wheels, Vespa looking thing) until I came across this Aprilia 250. 2009, with 3600 miles. for $2200. I could not say no.
Its great fun. When I first bought it, I put on my real riding gear and took it out to the interstate. I passed an 18 wheeler and exited on the next exit. It surprised the crap out of me.
When I bought the SuperDuke I took my wife out for a nice short ride. She hates not being able to hang on to anything. And the snatchy throttle is not a feature she appreciates. No matter how smoothly applied, It cannot be compared to the softness of a 250 scooter in her mind. So the scooter gets ridden basically daily. SuperDuke on weekends with the boys. And when I'm able to go to the mountains and ride. With the boys.
Life is good.

scamb66 that orange rim tape is actually painted onto the rim, that's how the forged marchesini's are finished.
frame and engine are untouched. just all the left side fairings, torn seat, rearset, lh switchblock, lh handlebar, clutch lever, sidestand, scratched tank. not insured so i will be putting my spare track parts on it and have 2 track bikes for the moment until i decide with rc8r to sell.
priced up OEM parts to repair and it was around $5,500 AUD. ouch! my insurance cost per year would have been about $4k plus excesses because of my age, and poor licence history lol.

All new plastics and tank repair and original Triumph crystal white respray.
Funny thing is it was cheaper to get all the parts ex-US (Bikebandit) than it was from the UK or Oz.
Still a couple of things to go like a set of Mitas E07 tyres, new chain, hand guards and a rear left hand grab rail to get it ready for rego but other than that it is looking like new.
Got rear ended at 120 km/h by a 1190 Adventure and went sliding 50m down the road. frame, forks and engine were untouched, repaired a few things and rest is new.
Owes me A$8k at the moment but probably worth around the A$11-12k mark. Rides true and is sublimely comfortable.
Plenty of dirt roads around here to explore, so looking forward to it.

From touring.
To trackdays.
Been a faithful companion for over ten years now and I've owned a lot of other bikes in parallel but never found a replacement. That new SDR has a lot to live up to....

So with that I have just added an 1988 851 Tricolre to the clan. Not perfect but not bad for a 27 yo bike.
Only 6600 km on it (rear tyre was made in 1989) and considering that it is only 3 years older than the Mille it is a generation apart ride wise.
It is a surprisingly good ride for an older bike, even with the 16' tyres. It pulls strongly, brakes are way better than expected, reasonably comfortable, although my 50yo wrists do feel it.
Still taking it reasonably easy due to the old rear tyre, new one is on its way.
Biggest complaint is the ridiculous mirrors, don't even know why they bothered.
I have a soft spot for older Ducati's but of course they are not without their issues.
The Mille was recently off the road for two months after I blew the front brake master cylinder trying to bleed them after putting on braided brake lines. Finally found a new Moto Guzzi replacement for it. All part of the fun.
As for getting it past the bride, well, I sold it too her based on investment potential (that and the fact she loves bikes as well).
With only 307 Tricoles made and with earlier Ducati prices heading north, it might even work.
Seen people make worse financial decisions, at least I get to enjoy it and you don't get that investing in shares.
So saving up for an 750 F1, think it would fit nicely in between the two. Last bevel, first Pantah, first Desmoquattro, red, white and green etc.
As for a favourite, it's hard to pick. I enjoy riding anything, even the brides 390 is a hoot.
Captain sensible would pick the Tiger, just because it is usable everywhere and comfortable. It's not overly exciting but not all that dull either, the 800 engine has enough to get you by and it doesn't have the weight of the 1200 ADV bikes out there. If I haven't ridden the 1290 for a while the Tiger is the one I think I would pick if there "can be only one". Then I ride the 1290, nothing puts a smile on my face like that thing and that's what it is all about.

2015-12-29 20:23:00 UTC
How do like riding the 390 in comparison with the 990 and 1290? I imagine it would be fun as hell! Not supermoto fun, but funn!

I picked up a 1993 V22 5 years ago. It was imported from the UK by a guy in the US military. He bought a Fischer KFZ stage I crate engine for it. Installed it and put Tyga's on it. Heat cycled 3x. From that point it sat in his dining room for years until he had to sell it due to divorce. I decided to go through it and make it as perfect as possible. I hope to have it completed by mid summer (been dragging my feet!). Here are a few pics. I assume you're on the UK RGV forum?
Day I picked it up and after powder coated frame.
