So anyone out there taken the plunge and bought Star Wars on Blu-ray?
Interested if the picture and sound justify a purchase. Content of extras not really of interest but just want to know if this is a worthwhile release.
So many Blu-ray discs give only average picture and sound improvement over normal DVD.
Yes I know it's not exactly highbrow cinema but its one of those classic films. Saw it on the big screen in 1977 and was blown away at the time.

Hi Mike, I watched The Phantom Menace last night, i'm going to watch them all in order! I suspect your question about sound/picture quality depends on what your AV equipment is like, on my system last night it looked and sounded amazing. I've watched the first 20min of Star Wars as well, and the sound and picture quality for an old film is very good, especially considering sound design in films has advanced so much since the 70's.

Nothing can make Jar Jar Binks better though

Blimey, my telly is a sony from 1998.

I'm looking forward to the saga being released on Betamax TBH.

I'll think you'll enjoy them on that, the last time i watched any of Star War's was on a 28inch telly with no surround system, so to see and hear it on a massive plasma and a full PMC speaker system was a big jump up! Your right in your summary of the films, from the reviews i've read Revenge of The Sith has some of best sound and visuals ever put on a disc.

You going to come to Oulton Park on Tuesday you get free trackday for 2012 as well!

That guy may be a fur lined, gold plated, ocean going Star Wars nerd but he wrote a fantastic review!
I guess that answers the question: yes its worth buying the Blu Ray release.
