Superduke R 990 Suspension Mods - worth it?

Hi all, looking at upgrading the suspenders on the SDR, seems a bit loose at the moment. Had it set up in Portimao by the Parkitt boys and it made a difference setting it to my weight at riding. However it was a bit of a handful at Oulton on Saturday.

Have many people swapped internals and rear shock out? If so does it make much of a difference? Maxton have quoted me the best part of £1800 to do the lot. Tempted but would be interested from those who've made changes.

Suspension done properly always makes a difference!
Even an oil change for the forks will improve them.
In my opinion suspension is one of the best and often overlooked mods you can do on a bike, this especially if your weight falls out of the manufacturers intended setup or the bike is a few years old.

The OE White Power rear shock and forks are good quality kit. KTM own White Power and it's quality stuff really with good adjustment.

But I just fitted a Wilburs rear shock and had it set up at HMRacing and it is quite noticeably better than what I've been used to. It's still firm with a 180 spring like the SDR shock I had on but it's way better in the compression and rebound settings and makes bumpy roads feel smooth instead of kicking you in the spine - which makes for a more controlled feel. I'm no expert but it just feels better quality but it should 'cos it was a load of money, even second hand.

HM charge abour £96 to set up your front and rear to match the type of riding you do and your weight in full kit. Best use of £100 I ever spent. I get it done every few years and always ride away and feel the improvement. I don't know what they do, it's all a bit of black magic really. (Or maybe only psychological but even that's worth it IMO )

No it was expensive. I paid about £360 for it or something like that as it was in Australian dollars but by the time the customs had added import duty and the shipping it was more like £400. I think they are over £700 new though!

I have maxton cartridges on the front and Wilbers shock at rear. Yes, it is worth it, but cost some $$$. This is probably one of the most important mods to the bike, but must be set up properly to fully enjoy. This time I would probably go for K-Tech cartridges but only because I have local K-Tech authorised service just round the corner

Not sure guys, I never asked as I have Maxtons already. Just a thought. Always worth to ask local specialists, they may offer some solution. Mine Maxtons were not made for Duke either, but they managed to fit some internals anyway.

K-tech reworked and set up suspension for racing back in '08 - be suprised if they won't now.

Well, the deed has been done and the cash monies spent. Two SDRs fully overhauled with Maxtons finest. Cartridge replacement for the forks and new rear shocks. Bikes are straight off to Almeria so no chance to test them out until they arrive in Spain. At least 3 days on track will be a good way of getting used to the changes and dial it all in. Hope it was worth the money!

Have to say though that the service and attention from Maxton has been brilliant so far and the kit certainly looks top notch, really nicely made and finished. Even got a full tour of the workshop when I fetched the bikes.
