The Bike Shed members club

For those of you that don't know Dutch used to be an active member here on this forum and rode an SDR for a few years. He started up The Bike Shed club and website a few years ago to cater for his passion in shed built bikes and capitalising on the growing scene in London. He's organised several successful big bike shows now and also runs the London Distinguished Gentleman's Ride out event.

Now he's taken it to another level and finally opened up a members club venue in some vast railway arches in trendy Shoreditch. I just received my membership so I'll be going along soon to see what it's like in reality. I guess I just have to be aware that in Shoreditch it will be full of uber style conscious hipster types (the bar even has it's own barber shop!) and I don't sport a cool beard or have tattoos and a tight white T Shirt but It will be a great place to meet with mates and even have a few business meetings there maybe. There's quite a bit of space for secure bike parking on site which, in London, is very welcome.

If you're in the London area then check it out, you don't have to be a member unless you want to be served alcohol after 8pm. Maybe it would be a good place to organise a Superduke.net get together sometime in 2016? I'm sure that Dutch would give us a good deal on reserving an area exclusively for this.

It's good there, it's on my way home after work, good space to park expensive food though from what inhale heard but if there is a meet there I would be up for it!

I've already checked it out at end of November last year.
Bought a T shirt to prove it.
Great place, great staff, ace hot chocolate on a cold day.
Well worth a visit.

Been a couple of times now and can well recommend it - staff were really friendly despite my not having a beard and skinny jeans..
Had no idea Dutch was responsible for it all tho.. Who knew??

Wow, he should open one up in San Francisco. Would probably make a killing.

Looks like a classy place though. I like it.

Yep yep. Went to the Tobacco Dock exhibition last summer and then to the caff in Shoreditch just before Christmas. Didn't realise Dutch was involved. Its a great venue. The Bloody Marys are particularly good with the egg bacon sanger (the bacon is magic!). Oh yeah me and my mate donned the standard hipster disguise for the occasions... see the pic. I don't think we were spotted.

Bic: Yep that photo with Dutch labelled is a classic. He's got the look and I'd join only SilverFox doesn't go with Hipster as we call it here in the colonies.

Food must be real good judging by the guy on the left.

Guy on right seems to be getting 'what for' as well.

Guy in centre is saying "I've been in Japan looking for classics".

Two tossers back right, are thinking "Fook the Bonneville show us your t..ts".

Guy in the quilted jacket and bowler is saying to the girl on left "Have you ever seen the movie A Clockwork Orange - its about some guys that ride KTM's".

Actually the more I look at it the more I can see the possibilities for a "What's going on here?" competition - prize is free membership isn't it Dutch?

Great photo!!!

I've just arranged to have a business meeting over lunch there on Wednesday. Hope there are some seats free!

I will take some photos and put up a review here afterwards.

I spent three of four hours at the Bike Shed club yesterday having a meeting with a new client over lunch. Very easy to find, right next to Shoreditch town hall with space for bike parking under the gaze of the shop staff so it feels pretty secure. The place is much bigger than I imagined, it used to be three indoor five a side football pitches under railway arches and has a typical urban, reclaimed feel with bare brick, poured concrete floors and industrial lighting and fittings.

There are three main rooms, the eating area with red leather booths lining a long bar and kitchen, a retail space with bikes and clothing and another hall used for events. The whole place has a great vibe even though in late morning there wasn’t many people there so it was easy to get a seat and wander round.

Menu and food was really good, prices what I’d expect for Shoreditch, but the portions were very large so you felt that you got good value. Bar staff and service was really excellent and the whole experience made me feel happy that I’d taken a client whom I’d never met before to a Bike Club – it could have worked out so differently!

All the bike gear for sale is typical of the urban, trendy, hipster thing, Biltwell and Bell retro helmets, Roland Sand jackets, Belstaff and tan leather gloves. Lots of shed built bikes along with all Dutch’s personal bikes.

Had a good chat with Dutch and he’s well up for the Superduke.net having a get together there later on this year so that’s something I will see if I can organise for when the weather gets better.

I’d really recommend dropping in here if you are ever in London and haven’t already checked it out. Me, I think I will be using this place to meet up with friends and I’ll certainly use it as a place to have business meeting at.
