Went to Dutch's latest bike show at London't Docklands today, the third one he's put on. Each time bigger and better than the last. He's done an amazing job of pulling together some really great bikes and suppliers into a really fitting venue and filling it with the cutting edge of cool London people. I could be a cynic about this latest trend of custom brat style cafe racer scene and how it's attracting the swarms of idiot, wannabe trendies willing to spend a lot of dosh for a bit of the action but I can't because I had such a good time and it really is a chilled and seductive vibe. Big, mash, mixture of bikes, steam-punk engineering, arthouse and old school cool.

First time for me. Appreciated the variety and the whole place had a really good atmosphere. Not just a cattle market like the NEC etc but a proper bike show with beautifully crafted bikes, each very original
Well worth it

Be interesting to see how long this retro scene lasts for. Maybe it's here for good or maybe until all the rubbish 1980's have been dragged out of sheds and resold as "ironic classics" to the misinformed hipsters. Tell you what, the guy on the Motolegend stand selling the new retro Bell helmet had taken pre-orders for over 250. Selling like hot cakes and they're not even imported/UK approved yet.
Bubble visors are all the rage in Shoreditch - but you need a hipster beard too.

Cant comment on the show itself but I followed three of the showgoers through Limehouse Link, Blackwall Tunnel and down the A2. One was on a K6 gixxer thou, One was on a monster thing and the other was on a late sports 600. All 3 could have been on Domino Pizza mopeds as they were pitifully, embarrassingly, slow and upright. Probably rehearsing for the Cafe Racer with bakelite crossplies they just ordered or maybe just had their beards wrapped around the throttle? I suppose if these born again aspiration cycles have a purpose it is to stop born again wobblers wasting modern sports bikes.
Anyway, dont get up to London much these days so I thought I would have a look in AyeGees That now sells those Victory tarts handbag things and was heaving with elderly beancounters that want to be bad ass bikers. I didnt bother to stop.
What is it with this buy a lifestyle thing?
