Well I had an idea to get the 800XC on the road and ship it to the UK and go on a Grand Tour of the UK and mainland EU but it appears that shipping alone will cost about 1700 pound, one way. As it would only be for a short period this is not quite economical.
So...
what are the pro's/cons of just buying a bike in the UK or EU and starting from there and either leaving at my sisters place in Scotland for another time or selling it at the end.
2nd hand bikes in the UK or Germany are by far cheaper than can be had here and appears something would be suitable for around 2000 pound/euro. Yeh I know you get what you pay for but hard to justify much more expense, especially since the Ozzie $$ has gone south.
Any website that you can recommend for used bike sales would be great as well. Pistonheads and mobile.de is the only one I can access at work. Any other countries I should be looking at?
Cheers

Bikes are way cheaper in Eu so no point taking it.
What you need is someone reliable to have a look at a few, otherwise you be in a rush to buy when yo get there and probably get a lemon.
If you want to buy, keep, sell it in the UK the UK lads on here will point you in the right direction.

Buying and then selling a bike should pose no problems. Insuring it may prove slightly problematic as you aren't a resident. You could try emailing or filling out a quote request in advance and see what they say. http://www.carolenash.com/get-a-quote/quote/rider are a motorcycle specialist or just use a price comparison site like http://www.gocompare.com/motorbike-insu ... cycle.aspx? and it will list nearly all the major Uk insurance companies.

I'm not sure if it will tbh. Kind of thing you'll need to check with them. Most people coming here with a vehicle will have it insured in their own country but this is different as your country of residence is not within the UK or EU and you're looking to insure it here as a jonny foreigner. Insurance companies don't seem to like it when anything goes against the norm or if it isn't an option on their computer screens

Shop on Ebay.co.uk. Negotiate and buy the bike yourself over the interwebnet thingy.
Have it collected and delivered to somebody in the UK then just fly over, collect it and bugger off.
I would be happy to store it for you for a short while and if you dropped if off when finished I could sell it and send you the money after you left. Somebody else might be closer to the airport?
Just a thought.......

Sister lives in Jockland so can always use that as an address for insurance purposes, not sure how licensing will go though.
