Hello folks

A shout to all british comrades electrician/geeks. I have the following cable which is unfortunately broken. At the bnc alike plug dunno where to solder the L (brown) and N (blue) cables. It has two cooper "links" but which one goes to L and N ? I am really desperate for any help. Cheers

I'm going to give you some help but also a warning.
Don't know where that is from but the plug in the last photo should NOT be made live unless that is completely insulated when the outer part is fitted. (means you can't touch that with hands or finger)
Reason is that the plug is exposed while the mains is connected at the other end which makes it extremely dangerous and illegal!
Also the left over bits of wire on that plug are a bit short and it will be difficult to do a proper job unless you have heat shrink.

Now I say normally the power cable L goes at the middle.

My advice is don't do it unless you are an electrician and you know what you're doing!!
Best solution is to replace both connectors male and female on the appliance with something decent.

Thanks for your reply ktmguy. I am not an electrician but as an engineer (audio in the past and network/IT nowadays) I 've repaired lots of cables. Prior to put it on the outlet I fold the bear cables with vinyl isolation tape. Also when I finally get the proper connection I will solder the copper ends.

Now I tried connecting the L to the middle but the house main fuse went down. So I guessed that I maybe did it wrong. Do you know where I may find more details ?

Cheers

Plug wired to a plug (3-pin UK to BNC in this case) is asking to kill someone. Don't do it.

What are you trying to supply power to? Tell us about the whole system I'm sure we can offer some better ways to connect it up.

Comrade, comrade, comrade: You spend around $15+k on a ride then take the risk of frying one of your other rides because you are too cheap to buy a new cord

I just like diy repairs that's all... And to find a new cable such this isn't such easy outside UK.

Ha ha ha.
Think ive hit a nerve.

Im still unsure as to what you are trying to achieve?

From your pics were assuming that your making some kind of deadly extension with a uk domestic plug on one end and a different male plug on the other?

Oh and im both a cunt and an electrician.

It certainly sets a pretty bad example and considering a hair straightener is a cheap piece of junk hardware, I don't know why you just don't buy another one or leave the little lady a few curly ones
Best to piss this tread off me tinks

If it's hair straighteners the "plug" on the opposite end may well be captive within the item once it's assembled. Thus defeating Darwin.

Stel - give us all the details, save us making cunts of ourselves even more than we do normally.

Oh, and if it's hair thingies without an LED then polarity shouldn't matter as they're just resistive. If there's a wee LED power on indicator then they might be fussy.

If you're popping fuses then the thing is probably beyond saving. Go to the store and treat her to a new set.

leeob you just hit a ball nerve )

This cable is for a vintage mic preamp (API). The male plug fits to a hole which is covered from plastic. What I will isolate myself is the soldered part of the cable. So far none appart from ktmguy has said the correct wiring. The L goes to the middle or in the top ?
