Great suggestions guys... I'll tell them your ideas thus far. The visitors will be Mother and teenage daughter who are both into art, and love visiting museums.. They love food, and exploring, shopping etc. I know they will have many choices.

The British Museum is worth a look too, don't bother with Buckingham Palace tho, bit of a rip off, as is the Tower of London (Crown Jewels).

Start with the London Eye and the combined bus and boat tour - very tourist orientated but will give them bearings, etc.

Art - all the usual recommended places plus Saatchi, White Cube, etc for contemporary. Look out for really unique one offs like the Soane Museum in Lincoln's Inn Fields, the Handel Museum in Brook Street, etc, Wren's City of London churches,

Shopping - no idea really but try New and Old Bond Street, South Molton Lane, etc for the expensive stuff - Picadilly, Regents Street and west (not east) Oxford Street for one offs like Burlington Arcade and department stores, including Fortnum and Mason, Selfridges and Liberty's - Harrods, Peter Jones, Covent Garden, Kings Road, Soho, 1 New Change (next to St. Paul's Cathedral), Borough Market etc, etc - and then there's the new 'malls', Westfield in Shepherds Bush and in Stratford City (new Olympic park),

Food - too many to list.

Misc - Somerset House or Broadgate for ice skating (like but not like the Rockefeller Centre), National Theatre and/or The Royal Court, Royal Opera House and/or English National Theatre...........................................http://www.timeout.com/london/christmas

Buy a good guide, do some of the tourist stuff but try some of the less well known bits as well.

Saturday The Borough Market is great. Gordon F'ing Ramsey frequents the place.

You'll recognise it from the Bidget Jones and Lock Stock movies

While there, take a look at the Shakespeare Globe

Sunday; Columbia Road Flower Market

Shopping Covent Garden, for the ladies to shop. Take a look at the Apple Store, it's one of their best.

Notting Hill, Portabelo Market.

Its quite a tax ride, but consider a trip to the Ace Cafe

Fot the ladies, visit the Shoe Gallery at Selfridges:
http://www.selfridges.com/en/StaticPage/SG-Explore/

For Food, loads, but try the Garrison near London Bridge, which is one of the better gastro Pubs. For something more posh, Pont de la Tour, near Tower Bridge. It's a trek and bloody expensive but Fat Duck in Middlesex (just outside London) is rated one of the best restaurants in the world.

Ace Cafe for a bit of cafe racer history and a great view of the part and of London.

Design Museum is fantastic at Butler's Wharf and totally agree with the Imperial War Museum. The National Gallery is fantastic as is the British Museum.

London Eye for sure and a quick trip to the Tower of London to see the Crown jewels is a must.

Totally depends on what kind of people they are.

Personally after 25 years in London the tourist thing doesn't have any appeal to me, but then why would it?

I like some of Snausers suggestions though. To add to......

Borough market on Saturday
Columbia road on sunday
Ace cafe on the north circular
New Olympic site to see what's happened there
Highgate cemetery to see Karl Marx resting place and many others.
One of the original east end pie and mash shops
Speakers corner at Hyde park on Sunday morning to hear the rants
Ice scating at one of the seasonal city centre places, ( need to book)
Tate gallery
Dinner at the OXO tower
Thames boat down to Greenwich and take in the maritime museum there.
The zebra crossing opposite abbey road recording studios
London dungeons
