Well what am I looking for when buying a 2nd hand SD ? Are there any real issues, which is the best year and does a mileage over 17,000 start to become an issue?
I have a budget of 6000€ max and that means 2nd hand and as I dont know the bike too well I need some advice so what ever advice you guys can give would be great.
I am currently looking at a good condition 2005 model with 15000miles at 5000€ it seems good looking at some others.

They are fairly good really, some on here with 47,000miles + with out major issues.

When you start it it up the toque limiter on the starter (later models were redisigned) make a nasty noise (sometimes) but no ill effects.

You can get the odd leak here and there on cylinders if your not careful so take a good look, when your getting to 15,000miles the water pump generally needs replacing as the seal goes 100euro job at home if your mechanically minded.

Dont think many people have had issues with head bearings etc.

But just like any bike, check service history, both keys damage etc.

Good luck

Mine had 36,000 miles on it when I flogged it. I had it regularly serviced at an independent, not even KTM and the only things beyond routine servicing were clutch slave cylinder (replaced under warranty) - if the example you're looking hasn't had this done, it'll need it sooner or later and I needed new front wheel bearings at about 20,000 miles. But I rode the bike all year round and the salty winter crap was what did for them.
Otherwise all good!

Have a look at the V5.

If it has Jody's name on it they bike has been around the track.
If it has Weeksy's name on it the bike has been around the track (a lot slower) and been polished a lot more.
If it has Danno's name on it you are getting brand new tyres (on the edges)
If it has Freestylers name on it, write your own receipt.
If it has anyone else on here's name on it.....the bike has been cunted into a graveol trap at one time or another

Oh and look under the seat. If the bottle opener is missing the last owner was a surething pisshead. If the KTM cheesewire has gone the ex owner is a psychopathic ninja. If any of the tools are gone then the damn bike has broken down at some point, walk away.

The old ones, 05-06 are more "alive" and need a firm hand, more pokey to
