What do you pay to keep your SD on the road

Be interesting to know what everyone pays in the way of registration to be legal on the road.
Here in NSW Australia we pay $110 Registration and $607 for Compulsory third party insurance.
That does not include any other insurances to cover the bike or rider.
So $710 every 12 months before we can think about riding down the road.
How do we compare?

- 80€ third party insurance ( special bike package agreement, befor was paying 170€ for the same third party insurance at another insurance company )
- 120€ road tax
- around 20€ for a full tank of 98ron

No mot around here, but it's beeing delayed year after year, it'll come and then at lest 28€ like I pay for my car.

Not cheap, but not expensive. Can afford to keep it even tough it's just a sunny day bike

OK guys, think I got this one.
I'll quote prices in U$ dollars:

Registration: around 55$ (for 500+ cc motorcycles)

Insurance:
Compulsory: 1485$
3rd party: 174$

Now, our compulsory insurance, is only for "body damages", that will cover any damage you cause yourself, pillion, pedestrians and other involved motorists. The coverage is pretty much the best you can get for your money, but it's still fooking expensive and is a must. Consider that's what I pay for 28 y\o, 12 years licence, no reported accidents and not even a speeding ticket. If I had 2 years experience, it would've been about 1780$...

3rd party only covers damage to 3rd party property, so you're probably wondering now where's the insurance for the bike in case it's stolen, crashed, catches on fire.. Well, it would have cost me about 1400$ just to insure it, and that's if I could have found an insurance company that would.

You see, here comes the best part, because of our crazy taxes, every vehicle is taxed at around 112%-125%, so my 2007 SD is worth about 15,000$. Yep, you read it right. When my friend bought it new in 2007, he did not get change from 41,000$. Prices been slashed after a few years so today you can buy one for 32,870$
And it's not just the SD, yeah?
A Suzuki Wee-Strom will cost you 19,726$...

So... You still think the Aussies are the ones getting bent over?

Well here in QLD Australia, for my solo seater SDR, all up costs are about $230 for 12 months. The CTP is greatly reduced for a single seater.

Okay, using about GBP 0.52 to the SGD.

Dealer 2010 SDR on the road, new GBP 20k.Includes: Import duty at 15% of OMV, Registration fee at another 15% of OMV, another GBP75 for another registration fee.

Plus: $1700 for certificate of entitlement (yes, you have to have a licence to entitle you to own the vehicle.. Cars cost much more than this - currently SGD82k (GBP 40k! - yes more than double the car cost itself in some cases). One time fee. Valid for ten years.
Plus: Road tax at GBP350 per annum.
Plus: Comprehensive insurance at GBP370 per annum.

Petrol - Shell V-Power is $2.54 (GBP 1.32) a litre.

So, who thought they had it tough??

Why doesnt everybody just buy a UK one (You could for example have mine for less than 6K) and skip all the taxes. I wouldn't even mind if you kept it registered at my UK address if that helped [/quote]

Are you not allowed to ride forign owned / registered bikes??

In Portugal to get fully comp you must be paying the bike to the bank.

If you own a older, second hand bike it's almost impossible to get fully comp, and the price is ridiculous.

My mate has just moved to Singapore and warns 150K+ with extra allowances and an income tax rate at 10%. He thinks he had a better std of living here earning less than half that and a 45% tax rate so you may have a point.

On the other hand I bet income tax in Norway is off the scale so you would need to be earning five times as much to even things out so I'm guessing its less relative than you suggest!'

Average pay here in Israel means you need to spend about 15.5 salaries to buy a new SD, but that's when not considering taxes or any other expenses for that matter. if to consider disposable income as just post-taxes, it would be around 28-30 salaries.

In reality, you'd never be able to to buy a new motorcycle here if you earn the average salary, unless you sleep on the street and eat from the garbage cans. An SD is a rich man's toy of course if bought new. For that reason and some more, only 5 were sold here in 6 years...

Tax isn't much on mine, license is $16 per year.
Full coverage insurance for the SD and LC4 combined is $150 a year.
