I'm going with the L twin. The RC51 with Jardine's that the HRC Team used under Miguel and Nicky dayz had a beautiful full toned bark and all Ducati's that pass by my ear have a great deep solid note.
The new Buell's sound great and I would be willing to bet new SuperDuke, uncorked is going to roll the sound of thunder. You used the term angry to describe the Aprilia, I thing the 990 has a pretty angry sound, at least i would say mine does.

Ducati 90 degree is my fave - but only with unrestricted exhaust and a rattly clutch.

Har ! Then you should hear my hot roded ST4S Duck. Bad Ass. Starts with and explosion! Vented clutch cover! Very mechanical!

My bud had a 1993 ? Moto Guzzi Dr. John. I loved that bike and I may have put on more miles on it than he did. What a great sound.

Went to the coast once thru a canyon. Loved to gas it hard and let off the gas for the sound of mechanical music bouncing off the canyon walls.

Was doing so and went past two teen age boys. They were actually jumping up and down with double thumbs up as I passed.

Hey scamb I remember also that there was bugger all room between the two top expansion chambers and the tyre I actually had to fit a washer to the right hand bracket because the tyre was touching the pipe. So there was no way to fit a bigger tyre in there with stock pipes.

"Guessing you never heard a VR 1000 30ft away at full throttle,,,,,,"

My lazy boy throne is 50 feet off a river tour road, where I sit now. There is a V Rod I would love to shove some potatoes up it's ars, along with the rest of the loud asr HD's.

Most of the HD's are so slow it takes forever to get them out of ear shot.

Heard a sports car fly past one night about 3am before a sports car rally the next day.

My guess was somewhere around 140 mph. Sweet music.

Almost got run over twice checking the mail.

Cars like to pass in front of the house.

Quite the start to have a car 2 ft off your ass at 70 + mph while you are standing in shorts and a T shirt.

Have to be the 90 degree V-twins for me (and even the TRX850 with it's 270 crank sounds pretty good for a "pretend" V-twin).
The old 888s and 748s with open Termis are favourites, sound a bit creamier than the 916/996. Less bark although not as deep a note.
As for the Jap V-Twins, I prefer the TL1000s to the VTR1000s (too much whine from the gear driven cams).
Other configurations... The Aprilia RSVs always sound a bit buzzy/sewing machine like to me, same as the Buell 1125R/CRs (72 degree). Although not much difference from the 75 degree 990 Super Dukes, I think the Super Duke sounds a lot better (at least my mate's with open Staintune cans does).

tl1000, trx850 not a v but still a twin, ducati 998, rsv 1000, Honda sp1, superduke, buell xb12 thingy, got to say I like a deep bass slower reving note you almost feel each power pulse, my trx used to set off car alarms you could here it over the top of most other twins on track, it was so slow out of the corners which made it easy to ride, only 6mph slower down the back straight at my local track than my sdr
