You may laugh, but get a neck sock/warmer.....no crap, worth it's weight in gold. Even if you have vented leathers like mine, the neck sock abates the wind chill on the neck and under helmet area. It's also easy to stow away under seat etc half way through your ride when it warms up mid morning.

In Townsville most bikes I see when it is getting cooler changing from flip flps to jandals and also wear a T-shirt instead of sunscreen.

Nothing beats 100% wool underwear.
Just remember to buy quality stuff that don't itch.

Layer up with clothing. It helps if its thin layers as well otherwise you will feel like the Michelin man.

Get yourself some winter weight cycle clothing - It's got long sleeves, low back jacket, and yes, tights. The lycra slips into leather/goretex jackets a treat and it's not at all bulky. Good for 10 degree days, below that a BMW heated waistcoat (uses carbon filiments instead of the uncomfortable wire heating elements in cheap heated clothing). Heated grips/hand guards are wonderful too.

Are you guys serious. When I start commuting in the spring It's -5C in the mornings. Usual temp. now is 5-7C most mornings.

Gloves, jacket, hoodie, neck-warmer, heated grips, hand-guards, breath-guard in helmet. Wool long johns and snowboard pants for longer trips.

I hate riding in above 30C, everyone else on the road turns into mindless zombies.

We're having winter weather that just won't let go; it's 12 noon and 43F (5C) on my backyard thermometer and raining. I'm taking the car. If it weren't raining I'd take the BMW and wear my Aerostich suit with a fleece sweater.
If you're riding a naked bike, it's layering that will keep you warm. Start with good quality wool or silk underwear and add as necessary. If you get caught out, newspapers make a good emergency layer of warmth. Adding a rain jacket is very helpful too.
And, could someone translate jandals and double pluggers for me? Never heard of em...

I think you call them Flip Flops in the US?

Double Pluggers are the heavy duty industrial version
