A year ago I was doing a load of trackways and the SD was shod in Racetecs. They were great for tracks and hot summer days ripping round the countryside and generally hooning about. Not great for the winter and wet weather but that didn't bother me too much.

But then I had to start commuting up to Bristol and using the bike more for work and long journeys. Racetecs were shit for this so I changed over to Sportecs and now my tyres look like this. It's a sad reflection of the type of riding I've been doing for the last six months! Flat middle from thousands of motorway miles and not even any wear at the edges. Back in the old days these tyres would have got a lot of stick from the forum piss takers and my riding credibility would be in tatters!

Bic,

That is an absolutely normal FL tyre. Yes, I know. Sad.
Need to take the SD to a track or the mountains (10 hours away) to wear them properly.
If anybody wants or needs Q3's worn in the center but slightly worn on the sides lemme know.

Ha ha.

The reality is that there is far, far more to life than garages and close race tracks.

Since I sold my company which forced me to be near London and therefore long and high travel costs, horrible home counties commuter belt region, I've lived in an area that was compromised as far as me and my partner were concerned. Moving to Bristol (which is the best UK city to live in by a long factor IMO) means that 1) The living costs are way lower, 2) It's a much better centre for culture/arts/music/food/entertainment etc than where I was. 3)The schools are better. 4) The politics of most people here are much more orientated to what I have always stand for. (Bristol recorded one of the highest level of anti-Brexit votes in the UK, where I was is Tory and Pro-Brexit). 5) The access to great British roads, Wales and routes to the South coast like Dorset and Cornwall are easy and quicker. 6) It only takes Amy's parents 2 hours to get here to give us a bit of baby sitting relief instead of 5 hours. 7) Bristol has balloon festivals, and kite festivals and free concerts and loads of stuff to do every day of the week for families, kids, students and all types of people. In comparison Crawley and most of Surrey had nothing going on - ever. Except for horse riding and horse racing and other shit on horses. Bristol accent is cool where as Southern, Home Counties English is a sound I'd prefer my kids didn't grow up adopting and believing the norm. (I have a Lancashire/Northern accent so all Southerners sound like posh twats to me.) 9) In Bristol street graffiti is applauded and publicly funded by the council (Banksy is from Bristol). It's all over every shop side wall and public building. It's amazing! In Surrey Graffiti is seen as anti-establishment and a crime. 10) Bristol has regular bike shows in the town-center and give over public space to support them.

So all considered, giving up a large house with three massive garages and out buildings is a small price to pay for what I now have. So what I have to walk a mile or so to get at my bikes and have a tinker? The insurance for being in a city centre only went up £17 and the bikes are probably more secure in that lock up than they were at my last place. I have a load more better bike shops and specialist workshops on my doorstop than I had before. More access to great roads, a healthier biking community and social opportunities.

It's a no brainer.

certainly sounds a lot nicer , I'm so glad I don't live in a city , but can access one by train in a relatively short time.

So sad and yet so happy.
You can read my life in my tyres too. They are always worn out. Middle shoulder first. Well balanced but no life balance. Obsession.

Keep up the good work, Down with Henry Cole
