Hi everyone, just picked up a completely stock 2005 SD yesterday with less than 9000 kms.

Its always been my dream bike, my 2008 Duke 690 dropped a big end bearing and I couldn't afford the repairs up front, so financed the new bike with a dealer.

Quick question, my fuel light has already come on at 70 km, should I be worried, I had expected from my research that you'll get 150 km before fuel up ( obviously the fuel light will come on before then) , riding pretty tame at this stage, looked in the tank, looked to be a little under half a tank left.

Thanks

I get 170 - 190 before the fuel light (bigger tank though) but yeah, something is amiss there. You will love this bike, I have a Duke as well and it's just more of the same, probably why its called a Superduke
Good to see another Kiwi on the forum.

Yeah I will keep an eye on it, its under a 3 month warranty with the dealer, I have already mentioned it to them.

Kia Ora!

What is also possible is that at some stage someone loaded the akrapovic map on it.
Not a lot of SD's retained the standard can as it is heavy and restrictive. The dealer solution was to load the akra map on it which is sponsored by the fuel companies and unbelievably rich.
The dealer can hang it on the diagnostic tool and check it.
If you plan to keep it standard it is worth a look.
With tuneecu you can also check the map yourself.

Welcome to the forum.

I've got an '05 too - have the Akra cans but no idea what map. Riding on the open roads I can get 120kms before the light comes on and have made it to 150kms without running out of gas, but wouldn't want to push it much further than that. I did find that one ride I did just around town and the bays the fuel light came on around 70kms - the ECU just didn't like the low speeds, stopping and starting and bad city drivers (well, I didn't like the drivers). I was pretty shocked, but it's been back to 120ish since.

Oh - and stay away from Gull and their Ethanol fuel - it'll warp your tank (and Mobil too if in Wellington).
