Hi all, been snoopin a while. Started with a test ride on a SMR 950 (roughly 2008, Brackens, London). Loved it but live in London and couldn't handle slow speed fuelling. Once in Kent/ Surrey borders(me old stomping ground for 2W sheningans), was perfectish! Japanese since 1984(full licence) so a break from tradition proved temp. impooss. Got bored again and test rode a SD(Mk2) couple of years later. Errrr. Always a fan of twins, 2 temps or 4 stroke, but what a revelation, again?! It had 6 miles on it, 220ish by the time I gave it back!(InMoto this time). Still shit in town but by then I'd read many hours of threads on this site and knew these problems could be resolved. I walked away cos nipper came along and money got tight. Always looking for the next IMPORTANT bike, been riding since 1980(off-road), and had many fine machines. But the SD, much more than even the SMR, was a real grin maker. Now I know I have to have one. More of a road rider than track, honestly is the SDR a pain in the road as opposed to SD?(I personally didn't need the angle of yokes tightened. You will understand from this I have limited mechanical expertise.) Glad to get this out as have visited this forum for years(I know- slightly left field

I don't know much about the SDR but i think it's got tighter front end geometry than say an '08 SD standard. With that said the way the '08 front is set up from the factory proved not to be a good setup for hard cornering as the front looses traction and make it feel ya can't push the bike to it's limits - Hence that Nichols triple clamp and rear shock adjuster combo ... Pushing the fork tubes down through the triples some makes a world of difference in handling - seriously --- one of the best things to do if you're riding hard .....

I can't stand the idea of lowsiding ..

cheers

Welcome to the nuthouse.

Personally I'd say that the SDR is only worth it if you're gonna be tracking it fairly often. On British country roads, I can't see it being very well suited.

I await actual SDR riders to correct/enforce what I say though.

Feel welcomed. I agree, SDR owners would have a good say in this, if they ride on Her Majesty's Highways!

Don't have an SD/R yet but that's why I'm here. It's an eventuality. Personally I feel like the SD would probably suit me better, as the 220 miles I had on one, over three differnt rides, was awesome and only ruined when I had to give it back to Inmoto(dealer London).

Not a lot. Not as sharp as I used to be, happy with SD front geometry, is R a lot sharper/ different?

What's the majority of your riding like ? Twisties ? commute ? Track ? and how hard to you ride ????

If you're riding style is slightly laid back then either bike , the standard or the R should be ok ... Other guys say , if you're tracking the bike the R is probably a better bet , it's got a few more ponies stock than the standard. But you can do a list of mods to the standard and beat the stock R horsepower wise .

i personally like the twisties and ride as hard as i can and really like the SD , it's almost as though it morphs into two different bikes - when i get in the mood to road race/ track style it seems to do so very well , but if i get onto a bumpy tight turn twisty road the bike shape shifts into what feels alot like a dirt bike and that's lots of fun ......

I guess in the end there's really not much a big difference tween the two bikes ... You could probably set up the "R" to handle just like a standard and you'd have a few more ponies overall to play with ....

If i had money ( which i don't ) i think i would have preferred the "R" - a few more ponies overall once all the same modifications are done and i kinda like the looks a bit better ( Except i like the standard seat setup better ) .......

and IF i had money - i just get the NEW SD when it comes out / providing they don't FOOK it up much from the prototype ......

cheers
