http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2006-KTM-990 ... 337be4cbf9
it wasn't in a big accident, just ran over a gutter and was dropped at low speed..
the price is is $5000 AUS not $5900 and when evaluating allow for currency conversion..

Good to hear from you mate.
Just to let you know, the guy bought this from Adelaide for $3000
If he hasn't fixed it, be assured there are more problems.
I think the 05-06 are the best aside from the SDR.
Contact Jmann as he actually sighted the bike and I think was out bid.
Wheels and headers may need replacing also mate

hey thanks linga yr a champ!.. that helps alot.. so are you saying the guy who's selling it now (adrenaline pb) bought it for 3K?.. if so, then he's got it way overpriced as they only sell written-off bikes and have a policy of not touching them - just acquiring then as is from insurance auctions etc and selling them on (after upping the price of course)..i've dealt with them before and they make no bones about the bikes they have so aren't duplicitous as such, but pricing can be questionable.. might reconsider my offer as i've been wanting a superduke ever since they came out and don't come around often... i think if i got it for the right price most of the things are easy fixes so would work out ok.. what do you think i should offer assuming nothing has changed since it was sold for 3K?.. cheers

Don't let him know you know and go in hard... start at 3k and go up from there.
You know his margin 3k plus GST and $50 vendor fee +7%... $400 freight...

Hi and welcome.
Yup sold in Adelaide at auction. I went to the auction and had a look and decided that it wasn't worth much. If you look elsewhere both Linga and I exchanged info on this one.
It was also owned by a member on this forum for a while.
Now let me see if I can remember what was wrong. Some of the things were:
2 Bent wheels.
Crushed header.
Something in the front end.
Instrument plastic lenses were really scratched.
Oil in sight tube looked really gunky.
It had various bit resprayed in situ. Thus there was lots of overspray over other parts including some pink stuff from somewhere.
It's got a pressure meter as though there has been problems with the fuel pressure.
Good luck but I think it will give you problems.
EDIT: Yes I stopped bidding at $1,000 and was surprised that it went for so much.
EDIT2: I assume you know the process for getting a repairable write-off registered. If that is what you want then it can be a pain. If you just want a track bike then that is something else.
EDIT3: Just had a look at the dealer photos and text. Even in the first photo you can see the rear wheel dent and yet the text says the wheels "seem fine" ...
This one at the front cost me $4,500 by the time I had fixed it as a repairable write-off. You can see the green sticker on the tank. The only damage was front wheel, clutch cover and cage.
Fortunately I was able to get it back to standard (exhausts, levers, indicators Etc) in order to get it past the inspection.

Going by the ebay ad, you'd think it might be not bad for 4, maybe 5K tops, but from what jmann's saying, I would have stopped bidding at $1000 too. Good for parts but it'd be nasty to get it back on the road.
I had a mate recently buy a written off Monster, he got a good deal on it and did most of the repairs himself so saved a bit that way, the end result was a bike maybe 1 or 2K less than he could have bought a similar second hand one that hadnt been written off.
For the peace of mind that something else that you hadnt identified might be broken, warped, cracked etc, I'd personaly be paying the extra.
It sounds like the original owner really let it go to the pack too, neglect=abuse=older than its klms suggest.
Do a REVS check on it, maybe this is the 2nd time it's been written off ?

I thought that I heard that the Australian transport dudes were going to stop repairable right offs from being registered? Track use only?
