Hello, after well over a decade of drooling over the Superdukes out there, I finally got one! An '08 Black & White standard. I usually go nuts with the mods on my bike, but I think that phase of my moto addiction has passed... for the most part. At the peak of my modding, in 2009, I took a stock 2007 R1 and turned it into what I called the "R-None." As in none of the OEM plastics--I turned it into a street fighter that didn't look like a crashed rat bike. Spent a year building custom fiberglass pieces for that one and was rewarded with a four-page spread in a national bike building mag. I've done a few minor fiberglass projects since then (including the solo-seat for my current FZ1), but with SD, I'm pretty much going to leave it as is, cosmetically, anyway. Been riding daily since 1982 and this is my 32nd motorcycle. I'm not seeing how to post photos, so until I can, words will have to do. Ah, photos in the signature, I'm figuring?

You might not want to mod the bodywork on your 990 but I would recommend removing the airbox and fitting a Motohooligan replacement as well as junking the standard silencers. It makes a huge difference to the character of the bike as well as sorting out any low down feeling issues. There are lots of threads on here about all the sensible small mods that make a difference.

Thanks for the welcome and the tips. What I'm finding (for the first time in my motorcycle ownership history) is that I own a bike where many of the after market parts that were made for the Superduke are no longer available, at least not here in the states, like the G2 Throttle Tamer to name just one thing I've looked for. And I'm big on sliders (frame, fork, and swing-arm), but can't find a good name brand that still makes the fork sliders. R&Gs are on backorder with everyone I've tried, so that can't be a good sign. I need to really flush out the forum for tips on dealing with that snatchy throttle; there's more play in the throttle pull than any of the 30-plus bikes I've ever owned, but hopefully I'll be able to take out some of the slack. Yeah, no more body fabricating--just performance stuff. I'm going to have fun with this one, on and off it.

Motohooligan used to do sliders, not sure if they were just for the engine and frame or whether he did the axle ones too. Check out his website.

Some things are easier to get in the States, others more available over this side. You can pick up R&G sliders everywhere here and there's usually a load of used ones onon eBay too. It may be worth looking on eBay because the shipping cost won't be too much as they are not too heavy.

There's quiet a few things you can do to cure the snatchy throttle outside of a throttle cam or tamer.

Lot's of it is in the epic must read thread but a quick over view:

Get a Tune ECU cable.

Remove secondary flies (or set the values to 100% with tune ecu)

Fit Motohooligan, Rotty, DNA, or ITG intake (gets rid of the big black box covering your throttle bodies)

I can see that you already have FMF Apex exhaust (probably the loudest mass produced exhaust for our bikes), with a tune ecu cable and the software you can check what map is loaded into the ECU. You can also make sure 2nd and 3rd gear limiter is turned off, among other things.

All good stuff, Aphex, thanks. Yes, I've spent hours reading through this and the other forum I joined, as well as searching out all the aftermarket venders. Contacted the folks at G2, and they set me up with the appropriate Tamer. The airbag mod will be my next Big One. Just got my CRG mirrors because these OEM numbers fold in at speed. And, ugh, yeah, the FMF slip-ons that came with the bike are way, way louder than I would have preferred, but I'm not going to drop a ton of cash to replace them, so will just adjust to the obnoxiousness of them. Hopefully, my neighbors here in the condo complex will as well.

I'm also looking into going the the PowerCommander (V or III) route though now it's tougher to buy them here in California. Whatever I do, I'll have my tuner Dyno the bike in. I'm not a fan of the download maps because I've installed a few seemingly perfect matches only to see wild improvements once I got the bikes custom tuned. MickeyCohen, a seemingly legendary race tuner here in Southern California, is the guy I usually go to and was the first tuner who demonstrated the the shortcomings of the downloads. That said, I'll be the first to admit when it comes to electronics, I'm a full-on moron.
