I am a veteran rider (62 and been riding since I was 20) and fell in love with the Super Duke R when I saw it in the showroom. I know it is way more bike than I will ever use or need, but damn I want it. I have had all kinds of bikes over the years, so not a newbie, but am not as fast as I used to be. I currently ride a modified Triumph Bonneville and am looking for another twin. I commute some, go for rides in the twisties with my pals and usually one or two 1500 to 2000 mile tours per year and one of those is always the Blue Ridge parkway and roads in that area. Is it reasonable for an older guy like me to get this great bike? I am used to travelling light on my tours and don't need a windshield. Is this a bike than can be ridden at cruising speeds and not always WFO? Is it a reasonable day in day out kind of bike that can also be ridden to extremes? I appreciate any and all candid feedback, Don't hold back.

The R is a bit more abrupt than the std SD by all accounts. From what you have said I think a std SD would suit you well. I had an 06 bike and loved riding it on the road.

Have fun.
