Hello all,
Just a quick message to introduce myself.
I am from the northern suburbs of Melbourne and have just picked up my Orange SuperDuke 1290R last Friday at Cooper st.
This is my first KTM road bike but I have had 3 big bore of roads KTM's over the years.
There has been many road bikes and the SDR is replacing a MV Agusta Brutale.
I have so far been to a couple of small rides and what a bike.
I am part of a small group of friends that ride together during the year and around every Christmas do a 4 to 5 days riding trip and this coming Christmas we are booked on the Spirit of Tasmania where we will be doing 4 days of motorcycling nirvana. I am looking forward to enjoy the SDR there.
Anyway, enjoy your riding and keep safe.

Picked up a brand new white '09 SD about 3 weeks ago, 0kms straight out of the crate. Loving it, great ride, great look and great sound. looking to get some after market pipes and airbox in the future but still running her in. Looking forward to sharing my experiences with SD forum members. Been a great source of information and laughs.
Have only seen one other SD in Melbourne so far, an orange one on Dynon road near Footscray.
Been riding various bikes for quite a few years. Have owned a CBR600R (sore wrists and neck anyone?), 883 HD Sportster (nice note but quite a slug for that many cc's), KLR 650 (nice all rounder) and still have a KLR 250 for dirt squirts.
I love all bikes, even scooters have their place. Love the look and sound of harleys but posers have ruined them for me. Can appreciate jap bikes , they do what they do well. The Super Duke has a look and soul about it that just fits me perfectly. Always liked the muscle bike style, the up right seating position. I reckon the SD will be a keeper and am looking forward to clocking up many miles

Hi Mick, welcome to the forum, we have very similar thoughts on bikes I think.
I had an 07 CBR600 before my superduke, I still think it was an awesome bike ,but my neck wasn't coping with more than half an hour on the highway.
The SD is a great all-rounder, i've had mine for a year now and wouldn't swap it for anything.
Pipes, motobox and a remap make a big difference.
Have fun, Jace

To be honest up until a few months ago I was not even aware KTM made road bikes other than their dual sports and motards. I was originally looking at a getting a Z1000 (always liked kwakas) or a Ducati Monster.
I stumbled upon the SD while reading a comparo review between a Ducati monster, Z1000 and a Super Duke. Soon as I saw the SD I thought "WOW wtf is that?" Did some more research, ended up going down to the local KTM dealer and seeing one in person and bang I was hooked. More research, all the owners seemed very happy with them. Pleaded my case to The Minister of War and Finances (a.k.a. the Wife), few weeks later I had my ass planted on a nice new SD

Welcome to the madness mate. And don't forget that despite what the Black and/or Orange brigade tell you here to the contrary - it's the White ones that are quickest.
