Hi. My name's Josh. I'm from the land of liquid sunshine, Portland Ore. I build shit for a living. I work for the largest steel processing facility on the west coast by day and run a prototyping/design company by night. I have a 2007 SD in orange with a truckload of aftermarket thrown at it. I sold off my Buell tractor to get it and haven't looked back. Since all of you have seen a Super Duke I thought I'd post a link to another forum I belong to and the Harley I built with unemployment. Enjoy

You got some talents there...
Now don't go building your S.D. down and
make a hardtail out of it ok..???? lol
totally different ride from a Buell...
I owned a Roadking Classic before my S.D.
Wouldn't go back for anything..

Welcome Josh I guess you've discovered that SD's are like a Harley with balls - also the design is a little
bit more sophisticated. Ya know your skills are pretty cool ... Ever thought about a SD with a snail. There's a
nice little spot where the current battery box is (a hide) although a lot of thought would have to go into moving
things around and keeping the balance right. Oil tank elsewhere, MH-like airbox, so one could see the throttles bodies. One
could do a lot with a SD.

Thanks for all the replies. I have a great friend that got me into motorcycles from bicycles. I wanted to build a custom moto first, but he told me to buy something that no matter what would start and move whenever I wanted to go for a ride. Only then should I start on a project. It was the best advice. I don't want to do much else to the SD besides wear out tyres with it. Now all I have to do is get some paint on the old bike.

Hello from Oregon. Thought I should do a proper introduction I suppose. Middle aged, recently divorced and always wanted to try riding. Recently went to a motorcycle show in Seattle and really liked the looks of the Kmt super duke. A friend told me a bike with handle bars is better to start with than the crotch rockets I had been looking at, so I put a deposit down on one that should arrive in April. Is this a good one to start on? Anyone have any gear I should be looking at? Currently borrowing a friends helmet and have some old work gloves, fortunately the bike doesn't look really fast like a Suzuki. Hope to learn lots about it and how I can make it more cool looking.

Welcome! Honestly, starting out on a 1000CC+ bike isn't the best idea for a beginner at all

OMG, Seriously starting out with a SD 1290? Or is it the "little 990"?

The only good news is that both bikes handle, accelerate and stop like a dream. I do think they are 'expert' bikes and you should not start out with one of these.

Start with an SV 650, if you drop it it was only a couple of thousand dollars. If you drop your brand new 1290 it'll cost you big bucks to fix it. Let alone the damage you will incur in a fall/ accident.

Ride Safe,

Maybe it's a 390 or a 690, jumping to conclusions anyone?

Benn lurking and joined but thought I would say hello, I have found the info on this forum to be invaluable! I have been building a 2007 SD that I bought with light collision damage and so far have done a ITG air filter, removed flies, re map, and now have MotoHoligan plates and pegs on order. It has been a fun project and is one of the most amazing bikes I have ridden!

Thanks for the welcome! The only real damage was shattered front rim. Needed a lot of TLC in other areas, It has quickly become my favorite and the other bikes are feeling neglected...

Hmm ... Shattered front rim? U sure it's an 07?

Is it black? Did it have a pair of "ready for this?" Stickers on the frame?

This is how KTM parts finder ID's the VIN:
2007 > 990 SUPER DUKE ORANGE (US)
All frame stickers match as 07
It has a black frame, tank, and gel ergo seat.

I am the 3rd owner, the rim had a chunk missing ( not completely shattered ) and the bead was peeled in toward the center, rims are black. Bought a brand new rim for it.
Dial indicated rotors and was lucky enough for them to have survived.

It has Leo Vince cans on it from original owner but was never re mapped. Had the updated 07 - 10 map in it.
Came with AKRA carbon front fender, now about 15 mm shorter after repair and carbon splash / chain gaurd.

mods list so far by me.
Oil / filter / screens
Checked valve clearance
New tyres, both OEM size Diablo's
DID X ring chain 525
Sunstar 16 / 41, was 16 / 38 OEM with OEM chain
ITG air filter / George from Greece base plate
Remove SAS / fabbed block off plates
Removed Evap canister / relay
Removed 2nd flies / shafts and servo
Remapped several times, now on smoothed AKRA, but plan on modifying the US version to eliminate need for resistor on evap solenoid plug.
Currently working on removing and plugging O2 sensors and replacing graphite ring, MotoHoligan plates and folding pegs on order.

Welcome to the forum. I was lucky enough to ride around Oregon when we stayed at La Pine at Motofantasy bike hire place.

Some great scenery and fantastic roads around Fossil.

Miff,
Thanks for the welcome, interesting link. I have never been to Fossil but after looking on the map I think I will have to get over there sometime. I have been for rides over to La Pine and Bend.

I rode through Fossil on 293/218/207 on the way to Idaho in August. Outstanding stretch of roads.
