Hello from potential SD newbie

Hi guys,

Thought I'd say hello. Been reading the forum for a few days now. It all kind of started with a wheelie, you see... It was a bit longer than I was used to, and I was a bit tired, and then I bottled it, and I braked. Which was bad. This handful of brakes ended up launching my K1200R into the tyre wall, myself skidding on the tarmac. I'm pretty pleased to say I'm fairly OK (nothing broken!) but the bike is quite likely a write off.

So I've been trying to figure out what sort of bike I want next, and I seem to be coming back to the SuperDuke. I rode one breifly several years ago, so I do know a bit how they feel.

Some of you (Ducati Porn, Couch Potato etc) might know me from Visordown (SuperMoto forum specifically), and Ratemut knows me (I think!) from k-bikes.com.

It now seems like I'm trying to decide whether go for a pre-07 bike (cheap), or 07-or-later bike (better tank size etc), or the SuperDuke R (more expensive, but oh-sooo-gorgeous!!). Opinions gratefully recieved!

Went to Premier Bikes on Saturday to have a nose around, but I must have been wearing my invisibility cloak because even after 10-15 minutes loitering I hadn't had as much as a "Hello", so I left. They don't have to take my money...
... Anyway, so as soon as my finances fall into place with regards to the K1200R, I'll be hunting, most likely, for a Super Duke R (or non-R, who knows!). If you're thinking of selling yours, let me know.

Hope to see you out there!

Love the bike... isn't it true that they could make tyres in any colour they want? I vaguely remember watching something that says they put the black dye in!

Two orange 016 please Mr Bridgestone - would that be too much?

Yeah, the blackness of modern tyres is a dye. They'd be concrete-grey otherwise. The Tomahawk ones I used were OK performance wise, and they were cheap, and you could get them in orange. Maybe something for the horrible winter months..?

I did end up washing the tyres though...

I went to KTM-Centre today - big thumbs up! Jason's a really good and professional fella. Lent me the demonstrator for "several hours", but I only used it for just over an hour. Tried the SD on dual carriageways (A41 @ 80mph == boring, but feasible), bumpy roads, and sweeping B roads.
Maaaaaan! The bike's like a sharp precision tool, just like I remember it! Impressed!

... Can't wait for the insurance company to get back to me regarding the KR.

Oh, almost forgot. Huge thanks to Weeksy for joining me at my tyre-kicking at Premier Bikes. YAY!

Assessor (Arses Or??) said he'd go look at my bike on last Thursday, probably Friday.... now he's going on Thursday... feckers... just dragging their feet (and knuckles?!)

At least my new leathers are ordered, bought new lid and new gloves...

Was going to put in a whinge... assessor has been to see my bike and has concluded that it is "a total loss" - i.e it's written off. Now he needs to figure out the value of the bike and present that to the insurance company...
... when this will happen or what happens after it.. I don't know.

All I can say is that the weather's been gorgeous and I bl**dy hate waiting.

To add insult to this all, I ordered a new set of Lindstrands leathers last weekend... got a message that they'd arrived, so yesterday we travelled about 1h to the shop to try them on, only to find that the suit in the shop was size 56, my old leathers are size 50....

More progress.... just when I was starting to get a bit lethargic about all of this. The sun shining outside and being without a bike depresses me to no end.
Anyway... I now have a letter stating all is OK, and that "the cheque is in the mail"..
This means I really have to decide what to do, and what price bike to get...
