Hello,
After drooling for many years over the SD and lurking in this forum for many months, I purchased an '08 with only 5k miles. The magazine guys hit the nail right on the head with this one. I am very pleasantly surprised at how nice the suspension, chassis and powerful the engine is. The bike has Leo Vince slip ons, BMC air Filter, SAS plates, and Tuned ECU.
Not crazy about the abrupt throttle response at low revs. I know, I know, go faster right? When you are crawling out of a 15 mph corner, opening the gas can be a bit unnerving.
I am considering changing maps with TuneECU and I'm reading issues with bike not idling anymore, Windows 7 laptop not connecting to the bike, I'm a little hesitant to ruin a good thing. I can probably get used to the throttle response and manage.
Do you only need a good map with TuneECU or is there need for a $400 Power Commander on top of it?
Thank you kindly for your time,
Sarasota_Steve

Welcome and that is a very funny Avatar!
No only TuneECU otherwise you'd have put in a map then have the Power Commander (PC) doing stuff on top of that. If the PC was having some positive effect the the map wasn't right in the first place. A lot of guys used to use a PC before TuneECU arrived but since then I think most have removed them.

Welcome!
A Jmann said, just tuneecu, a map, a few unticked boxes (like O2 sensors and so) will clear things up.
Only benefit of fitting a PC is if you want a dynotune and the tuner doesn't know or like tuneecu.
I have to say in my case a custom map changed the bike from bad throttle to nice to ride.

Thank you for the warm welcome.
So my buddy Triumph Speed Triple Mark, who is the person semi-responsible for my buying the Duke, since he bought my Suzuki SV from me to make space in the garage, rode my Duke the first time out. He was super impressed with the suspension, chassis and ergonomics of the bike. Not crazy about the vibration under 4500 rpm. At the end of the 20 or so minute test ride he said: "I'm only going to say this once, The Speed Triple AND the SV, even trade for the SuperDuke". I had to decline.
So he has gone bananas trying to find a Duke and he finally did. He called me yesterday and said he bought an 07 with 13k miles from a guy in SC, advertised in this forum for $5900. Sent a deposit today and will be driving to get the bike in the next week or so.
In the mean time, we saw a 2007 with 493 miles (Not a typo) with Carbon Wheels for $9900 (Insane if you ask me). Some sellers are down right mad. Fookin' mad.
Will keep reporting on the adventures of the Tampa Bay Crashers.
So long,

If you use the Search function Steve, you should be able to find some informative threads on rim tape choices...
Enjoy the new bike, hope the 990 sells ok

Congratulations!
Glad you were able to find a dealer that wasn't gonna jerk you around.
Time to start the modding process all over again?

Welcome to the forum mate. Most of the blokes here are good, mods can be wankers at times though.
About bloody time.
