Hello all,

I've been lurking around in the shadows for a while but in the end i thought i best register. After 7 years on a Jap inline four i fancied a change, after testing a 990 the testride list went in the bin and there was only one choice to be made........ what colour to get!! Luckily a tidy orange 2010 example came on the market close to me and i snapped it up. Unfortunately only managed 4 rides on her before work got in the way and had to go overseas for 4 weeks.

As i said the last 7 years i've been on a jap inline 4, namely a CBR600 F sport. I brought it to get back into biking after 5 years off and only planned to keep it for a year or so, but it was too good at most things, so it lasted 7 years & 21,000 miles until being traded in for the SD. If i could of afforded it and got away with it with the wife, i'd have kept it. Also in the garage is a 1997 yamaha TRX850, a longterm project bike, thats gone from ratty run about to a semi-smart resto after a nut and bolt rebuild a couple of winters back.

I can't wait to get home now and get some more miles done on the SD. Just before coming away i put all the suspension back to factory settings, so need to get that set up for me. The bike came with a fair few after market bits so don't need to buy too much for it, although i don't doubt there will be some changes over the winter period!!

Anyway looking forward to chatting to everyone soon enough. I'll get some photos up in the "show your superduke" thread very soon.

Welcome mate.

You're doing the right thing and keeping the world in equilibrium, because the right numbers of bikes is n+1 where n = the number of bikes you currently have.

Hi I’m new here and am currently riding a modded Honda vtr1000 but am looking at either a 990 sd or 990 sdr and was wondering about any problems and mods that should be done. I’ve already heard about the water pump problems.

Thanks

Hi & Welcome
Where are you in the UK?

I'm in Somerset.
I bought my SD990 Sept 2016 and straight away the water seal went (or more likely had already gone), was a simple enough job to sort though, it's something you should expect at around 15,000 miles.
The latest issue mine has is the coolant hoses don't seem to want to keep the coolant in

The SDR looks better for sure but the SD is likely better to live with, I can ride all day without feeling cramped or feeling like the seat is hard. Mines has the common mods so has smooth throttle response and lots of power.
Motohooligan airbox, decat Akro pipes (standard header), power commander III and has been rolling road tuned. She makes 121hp as the rear wheel, which I think must be similar to what the full fat SDR's make.
So if it's an SDR you want try to get an 08 as others (I think) as just body changes but no extra power.
