Hi SD'ers,
Good to be here. I am a 53 y.o. resumed rider, who was a dirt bike rider as a teenager and into my early twenties. Finally bought another bike last July, 29 years later, a BMW K1200GT, after taking an MSF course and getting a motorcycle license (didn't need that when I was riding before; that's how old I am). I love the K12GT, which is very fast, smooth, and handles very well, but wanted a smaller bike to ride on errands and for a blast on the twisty roads around my home in Maryland, USA, so I settled on a SD. I found a great deal on a hold-over '08 at a local dealer, and once I realised that there would be no '09 SD's for the USA, I took the plunge. I am now the proud owner of a new White SD.
I just love the thing. It is the first big twin I've ridden, and I enjoy the torque of the motor, and how willing to rev it also is. I'm still in the break-in, but already can tell the performance is awesome. The handling is other-worldly. I love that the bike is so easy to flick into turns, but still very stable; it rides that edge perfectly.
I've farkled my K12GT fairly well, but am being more restrained on the SD, which is just so awesome as is. I did put the orange machined aluminium brake and clutch reservoir covers on the bars, which look great. I like the simplicity of the bike, compared to my Beemer. That is much of its charm to me.
Anyway, glad to be here, and happy there is there is such an active community of SD riders. We have an awesome machine, guys.
