G'day there maties,

Have 2006 SD with only 7k on the clock. Have always loved the look, sound and performance of the machine but obviously didn't ride it enough.

It's out of warranty and old enough that I now have to replace a lot of stuff just due to age rather than wear, like battery, tyres, all fluids etc.

I've mostly owned bikes from new and traded every few years. This means all maintenance is performed by dealer so you never get that close to the machine. That changed for me when I had to decide to either trade the SD or keep. Couldn't bring myself to trade so decided to keep. Then decide to self service or dealer. Research told me dealer service is too much like gambling and self service has many benefits.

With many and complete thanks to this forum I started doing all the regular service items like oil, filters, fluids, clutch adjust etc, etc. Wouldn't have been possible or successful without you group of helpful enthusiasts.

I can also claim that some of my discoveries about my bike, and fixes from the form, have no doubt saved my skin and possible my life. Taking on the regular maintenance means I'm now a lot closer to the machine and what's happening, and that's a very good thing indeed.

Many thanks again!

This would have to be one of the easiest litre bikes out there to maintain.
If you are a little bit handy this forum will point you in the right direction and heaps of guys are here to help.
Having the 990 means that pretty much anything that has happened to the model will be covered here somewhere.
The search button is your friend.
Welcome to the madness.
