Can anyone share any information regarding when our bikes will arrive stateside/Canada? Up until 1 week ago my dealer (B.C. Canada) was still expecting shipments to be coming in before the end of March. I have yet to receive any updates since then. Any info you can share is much appreciated.

Spoke with my KTM dealer on Friday and he told me my bike will be here mid-April..This is the 4th different date I was told so I hope it is true..

aracheon

Yep, four different dates and now mid April. I've got money down and am supposedly first in line. So much snow on the ground, salt and grit on the streets I wouldn't want to ride it because all that would be left was a pile of plastic and rubber parts that the salt didn't dissolve. Two of my riding friends were very interested in the 1290SDR. One of them pulled his name off the list and bought a Speed Triple and the other guy looks to be about to buy something a little more Teutonic. KTM where are the bikes!

KTM seem to be a bit shit when it comes to a definite date. My wife order a 390 Duke in Feb 13 for a May 13 delivery, called in May told June the July then August and finally told that they had no idea.
Ended up with November delivery.
On the upside I was expecting a mid FEB delivery on the 1290 and picked it up mid JAN.
Seems to be KTM leaving the dealer in the dark or misleading them altogether.
Good luck.

We are all just waiting. Anytime now supposedly. Meanwhile the Ducati Monster 1200 appeared well after the 1290 was announced and is now arriving in dealerships. KTM makes great motorcycles but they have to get their act together with getting product to customers in a timely manner. If you want to sell more road bikes, first you must have road bikes to sell!

I just got back from the dealer here in Oklahoma and he heard rumors that a couple of 1290 units were available in California. Of course, he says KTM won't release the bikes until the entire dealer network is covered to prevent screwing themselves in the smaller market.

We are all apparently crazy. I ordered $3,014.80 of accessories today for a ghost bike without a firm delivery date.
This total does not include even a single performance part as I want to run in the motor and get a feel for what will optimize engine performance. Most of the stuff sounds like mid to late June deliver which, perhaps, is a good thing since it would be even more depressing looking at a pile of goodies with no bike. I've been doing this since 1966 and this is the first time I dumped $$$ into a motorcycle I have yet to see. Crazy?

I think I am getting old. No power parts of any kind ordered. Eventually I will need the rear stand for the single sided swingarm. Probably will "power up" with some heated grips:) For sure will get the Akra full system but later on-and mostly just for the sound. No hurry. I plan to have this bike for a long time. Will get a tail tidy too. Beyond that I am not sure. Not that enthused about any FI tuning mods as everyone says the FI is great from the factory. I certainly don't need more power.

I spent a lot of time messing with my 990 SMR to get better FI maps and a bit more power, but with this bike I have no plans for that. Might get the comfort seat.

I have a hard time imagining KTM shipping all the bikes back to Austria for FI mods. Not impossible but that would cost a lot of money. They have sold a lot of road bikes in the USA already so hard to believe they would ship non-compliant bikes. The Ducati Monster 1200s are at dealerships already-Italians with their act together more than Austrians? The horror Still hoping to get my bike soon. Not going to stress about it as it is out of my hands. Just got my Pit Bull rear stand today so I am committed! If it turns out to really be August then I guess I will be putting more miles on my 500 EXC.

I spoke with a guy at the ktm factory named Horst Vernmueller who informed me that KTM under estimated the popularity of the SDR and over sold them in Europe. They will be short on bikes to ship to the USA and most dealers will likely only get one or two depending on the size of the dealership. Many customers will get their deposit back and no bike but will get first dibs on the 2015 models. I hope I don't have to wait til 2015 that would suck!!I can't believe they won't have enough bikes to go around!! NOT SOUNDING GOOD PEOPLE, This post was from a guy on the Superduke.com

I can sense many of you are extremely frustrated to say the least with KTM, dealers and the whole process in general around this bike.

I can't say I blame you the least. I am probably the least patient man here. Big statement I know, but I would be close to the top if not in it.

If you however find a way to get through KTMs supply oversight and make it to the other side without killing your dealer I think you will be very pleased

Despite bike's fit flaws, assembly mistakes and other teething issues we see on most new model bikes it's a really a great piece of engineering.

I did a 600kms ride yesterday on the bike over an 8 hour time slot. I went out to seek all those great back roads where you can go bananas and really enjoy the bike. It was a mix of really tight stuff where bike handling would shine and some long sweepers.

The engine is superb! So much power in the midrange and it just keeps on coming. Just when you think you land yourself in a hot spot and you were charging a corner, you can easily get yourself out of trouble. I was not sore anywhere including my bum over such a ride and I am 6' so bike is comfortable for my hight

I complained as much as anyone else here about some issues that I can't accept for the price of the bike and I will have them rectified don't you worry. But when you put all that into prospective, the real riders amongst us buy this bike for how it rides and what it enables us to do and not how it looks or what accessories we can fit on it.

If you are patient enough and you get your bike, you will soon realise that the pesky little annoyances are nothing comparing to the grin you will have on your face after each ride. I still wake up the next morning with a grin on my face as if I slept with a hanger in my mouth.

I would guess a lot of riders sold their current street bike to get a better price than doing a trade-in and have extra cash in hand once the 1290 arrives. I traded my 990 SMR with the bad immobilizer for the EX500 and then quickly sold my 690 enduro to make room for the 1290. So I haven't been on a good street bike since December. The pain is great but I will survive I don't mind the complaining. All will be forgotten and forgiven once the bikes arrive.

I haven't seen this discussed yet but does anyone know why KTM fitted the 1290 with forks that don't have adjustable spring preload? I was just reading the Sport Rider review of the bike and they loved it but mentioned that you can't adjust the fork preload. I just don't know why KTM would bring a bike like this to market without a truly "fully adjustable fork"?

I've contacted my dealer several times and am told mid June or later for a delivery date. I've yet to see the 1290 in person. I love the looks and stated performance. I too am growing impatient. I've started looking at other bikes as a possible substitute due to the fact that the good weather hourglass is dropping sand and before we know it cold days will return all too soon. I want maximum time on my bike considering what I'm going to be paying for it. Does anyone know why the bikes are being delayed? A legitimate reason such as fixing a flaw or something I can understand. I would just like a simple explanation. A hard date for delivery is not too much to ask as we are paying customers. I've owned 5 other KTM's and loved them all. I'm a loyal KTM owner and a little honesty would be appreciated. In a time of constant lies from everyone from politicians, the government and the media I'd expect some honesty from the people I'm spending $18,000 with. If it's not until June or July then fine but damn....tell us the truth. It feels just like "the check is in the mail" response that we all know is BS. I have to send my dealer multiple emails to get a simple response that proves false.

So I called a dealer in Georgia today and just asked if he heard any news. He said he had shipment confirmation but did not have the paper work in front of him but said he thought it was the end of the month. then he was only getting 2 and they were spoken for. Then I asked what colors he was getting and he said there was only one color LOL. I said well no there is 2 and then said you know these have already been released and ripping up the roads in Europe right? he said he did and that he knew for a fact that one color was being delivered first and then on the 2nd wave or next year all colors would be available. Needless to say Rocky Mountain motorsports needs a new salesman. I believe that was the dealer name Cobb Prkway, GA. Im not sure if dealers have anymore clue.

There now is an orange available at KTM Country in Eugene, OR. BUT......They want an extra $850 for freight and set-up.

According to their website, Nevada Motorcycle Specialties has an orange one in Reno:

http://www.nevadaktm.com/pre_owned_list ... mit=Search

I would call and ask for Mark to verify. I no longer live there or I'd go and check. Mark sold me my 2008 Superduke R new. It was the best major purchase experience I've had, and I highly recommend this dealer.

I picked mine up a week ago. I rode it 8 miles and it started leaking from the generator cover. I loaded it up yesterday and they replaced the gasket. The dealer rode it to get it inspected, and it came back leaking worse than when we started. I looked at everything with them. The engine and cover look perfect, The original gasket had a small crease where it was leaking, but it leaks in the same place. We suspect the rubber grommets for the stator and ignition wires might be the source. Dealer and KTM are talking. So, to recap, it is going to be a beautiful sunny weekend, I took delivery of my 1290 (they had two on the floor, I walked in and out in about 2 hrs) and trailered it the 1.4 hour drive home. Suited up, rode 8 miles, got an oily foot, called the dealer on Tues (I had to have it, so I got it on a Saturday). We got the gasket(s) ordered (Smart parts guy) and I took it in yesterday at 1:00 PM. The dealer and his mechanic spent the time to look everything up, get the tool for the cover and got the cover off. All looked well, and so we got it together, and bam! Same leak. Obviously, I am gutted as I wanted to be riding. I will make sure I let everyone know how this all comes out. Maybe I should have gotten the orange one......

Sad

My new SD saying goodbye to my Akra. I thought I should borrow the Akra or my old Superduke that I traded.

Image

So, I traded my hyper quick RC8R and Super Duke 990 for the uber nuclear wicked cool SDR and all I can do is ride my Big Ruckus or my SR500E. Going to be a tough weekend for me, I might as well learn to knit...

Sad to hear about the oil leaks on your 1290 SD. I hope they get it fixed soon! I haven't seen any major issues on my 1290 SD yet, but keeping a close eye on it and other issues posted on this forum.

By the way I rode the Big Ruckus 150 or so miles. I worked on my buddies S1000RR, Gixxer 750 and his Daytona 675 so I could keep my hands on bikes.

My dealer will get it sorted, I just hate that in my second week of ownership, with 8 miles under my belt, I can't ride it. Sad, but it will make it sweeter when she comes. I saw a few posts here and there about left side leakage but no real fix was discussed, other than gasket replacement, so I will share when I know.

Enjoy those scooters.

Took my 1290 for the 600 mile service at I90 motorsports today. They had an orange 1290 and a black one on the floor. I think these were the demo bikes from the motorcycle show. They also had and RC8, an 1190 Adventure, and an 1190 Adventure R, plus a 500 EXC and some other smaller bikes.

I just realised the US bikes don't have LED blinkers. That's a bummer. Those things are horribly large and ugly. What's the deal behind that?

Does anyone know when the 2015's should be hitting the showroom floors in the southeast? My dealer told me they don't know and haven't even gotten the 90 day preorder forms. They are a new ktm dealership and makes me wonder if they just don't know.

Got a call today from a dealer near by saying he just got a new orange 2014 in.
Told him I was planning on waiting for a 15 since it's so late in the year but would consider it if he gave me a deal. He wouldn't budge off list price.

I know the 15's will be the same bike but I can't see paying full price for what is going to be last year's model in another month or so. Salesman was confident he won't have a problem selling at list price.
I've never paid list for any new car or motorcycle in my life and it's killing me thinking that's what it's going to take to get one.
I understand supply and demand but is everyone paying full price?

With all the issues on the 14 model and the slow response to fix it, (specially in the states) I trust you all be smart enough not to pay full price and put that argument to the dealer.

Mine went from the crate, to the floor, to my garage. I paid MSRP and that was after I grabbed the rear wheel and felt a slight hub movement. I had already read in this forum about hub issues which isn't an issue with me. If i didn't by the bike another rider would have the same day. 1,000 miles later (two weeks with bike) and the hub has the exact same give. No more, no less. Checked the hub bulletin with the dealer and my vin did not come up as one with a possible hub issue. Have none of the other issues being reported. After 45 years of riding damn near everything, this is the best bike period I've ever owned... Except for my SE of course, and then there's that old Elsinore, and.....

Comrades: Ok so the bottom line is that there is a belief that if a register existed where somebody could see the Vin number of your bike it may ultimately lead to it being stolen from your home. This is as opposed to that same person seeing it in the street and just stealing it or checking the vin number (in the street) and working out where you live and stealing it from there. Seems like the long way round to me. Further, when bikes do get stolen there seems to be this great hope that somebody on a forum such as this will recognise it and help get it back. Well the reality is that some of those parts you buy on ebay may very well be another member's broken down bike. Easy access to vin numbers and engine numbers Etc may well interrupt that trade. I wonder if all those folks with bikes on the various registers (Vincents, Vellocettes, Enfields ...) have higher rates of theft from their homes ... Superdan do you know?

Perhaps there is a class of criminal that thinks "Umm like to steal a KTM1290R". Gets on the laptop and checks out the register. "Oh here's one, yes it's located in Brisbane, Australia". Gets the vin and works out the owner's address. "Oh good it's only 35Kms from here. Now I'll get the van (must remember to swap over to my set of stolen plates and I can't just ride it because it'll stand out like dogs balls) and drive over tomorrow when everyone will be at work". Now steal the bike and sell the parts on ebay... " "Umm on second thoughts I'll store the thing for a year or so until those parts come under less scrutiny".

Seems to me to be attributing the average scumbag with way too much cognitive ability. Rather, I'd put it to the comrades that the average sleaze merely sees a bike in the street, breaks the lock and rides off only to find that the cops start to take an interest in "Wonna them new KTM's". Runs the cops and gets away but then thinks "Umm can't take it home better torch it ..." Yes I know i've ignored the immobiliser but that would ruin a good yarn ...

Edit: Indeed I am also a great advocate of privacy however I do feel that one has to think things through and identify the real risks. It always amuses me for example, when ladies ring me and if I need to call them back seem reticent to tell me their name It is, after all, they who called me so they know exactly who I am. What are they thinking?

Ok, you guys have a sense of humor...thats a start. So, let's say this register thing happens... This thread started as North America availability... Is this going to be a North America thing or a global thing? I'd assume global. Has anyone gone through the threads to see how many different folks have serious bike issues? Is it 5 or 10 folks or a whole lot more? I'm coming from an 1190 and that bike is far from being sorted and ktm hasn't admitted anything.

And to keep it in thread topic. My dealer sold 4 1290s in Arizona and not one has returned for an issue and 3 have already been and gone from first service. No more 1290s until spring 2015.

I asked him about 4 times are you sure it's a 15 and he said yes. I'm still skeptical how he got a 15 when no one else has. I know they have a build date stamped on them but what about a model year?

The 2015's are assembled using all the reworked warranty returned parts off the 2014's. The defective hubs are packed with wet oatmeal to tighten then up until the warranty expires. You fill in the blanks on the rest.
