Austinracing Exhaust For 990

Just testing the water for a possible exhaust.

What style is preferred, low GP3 or Hi GP1

Would owners be ok with cutting stock headers to allow our pipe to then clamp in place.

Are the bikes the same from 200? To 2014

?

Bikes are exactly the same from 2005 to 2012(last official model) The SDR did have fatter headers. If you post up where you are joining it I can measure the pipe on both as I have spare SDR and 06 headers.

I'd be immediately interested! Been looking at doing this myself for a while. I'd want a low level pipe that tucked as close to the swing arm as possible so as to not compromise ground clearance. I like the original AR GP2, honest, no- nonsense, silencer style.

I'd be willing to cut the down pipes but as I have a titanium, full system I'd not cut this but rather find a spare set of steel pipes and use those so I had both options available to me.

What do you reckon the Db level would be? Could we get to 95 db for noise testing for track days.

Db levels will depend on the end can choice, we will need to test with the db killer to see where we get to.
Low level would be far simpler and cheaper to produce:

I'm very interested too, same as bic. Low level but no compromise to ground clearance.

I'm interested as well. Running Mivv's now but it would be worth the swap to get the weight down low.

Interesting topic... I cannot imagine my SDR with low side exhaust, but single top one sounds nice. Anyone can produce some graphics to show how that would look like, more or less? I'm not so good in this, so I won't even try

I may be in a minority of one here but I'd be interested in a twin underseat system as per my 990 SDR round Akras/Ducati 996S Termis for the 1290 SDR when I get it.

The main reason I am interested in a new single silencer exhaust is purely aesthetic.
I'm looking into the future and contemplating altering my SD into a cafe racer, semi-retro look with a big aluminium tank, single seat and carrying on the clip-on handlebar, stripped down minimalist look. The twin underseat silencers are not what I really want and so I am looking for a small, minimalist exhaust system.

But, as comments above, I need it to meet track day noise tests, (max 95 dcb). But I'd be happy to buy two inter-changable silencers, one for track days and the other for normal use which could be a bit louder. Obviously the benefits of weight removed from high up on the bike is beneficial. But I'd also want to be persuaded that a big 'V' twin with a two-into-one system is as good as a conventional free-flowing twin system. It's not following the convention and I often wondered about this. If a 2-into-1 was any good surely all the history of V-twin exhausts would have adopted this? I've always looked down on seeing Ducatis and such like with these systems.

Here's what the SD could look like without the underseat exhausts. I like it.

I'd be in for either a low slung option or high mount. I'm done with the leo's that came on the bike and have been putting off a purchase of a set of FMF's. But if you guys make something, I'm in.

I think low could look awesome and I would be wiling to cut the headers. Low would give me more room to chop the tail unit right down to the back of the seat.

Low is going to need a hanger taking from somewhere to avoid over stressing the headers......... and will not be 'drop' friendly either

The low level will require headers to be cut as there is no clamp point to come from.

Correct a 2-1 will work.
Heat will not be an issue.

I was investigating where to attach the low slung exhaust and came to the same conclusion - that the right footrest mounting point was the best option. Using the pillion footrest point is too far a reach and the silencer would wobble about and so defeat the objective. I was going to make a bracket that attached to the inside of the frame at that point so not as to interfere with the rear-sets as they are at the moment. I don't think that heat would be a problem.

Me I am only interested in the high level, thats if it can be fitted onto the Akra headers without cutting anything

Here is a picture I photoshopped showing what I'd like.

After closer look I think the pipes will ideally need to be cut before the two-into one section, whilst the pipe run is horisontal, (so the AR down pipe would have a twin pipe join). If the pipe is cut after the stock pipe becomes one then the pipe direction is vertical and the AR pipe would have to do a very tight 90 degree bend to exit below the swing-arm. This would also result in two 90 degree bends very close to each other which cannot be good for free flowing exhaust gasses?

Wow where did you find that picture, that was 1 of our very first exhaust builds 4 years ago.

Ha! I have had it for a long time in an image folder of bits I like. But I think I just got it from Google images and it was fitted to an Aprilia RSV4.
