starting to slowly get ready for a trackday 2 months out...and Laguna Seca has a 90-92 db limit but I've got LV pipes currently with baffles. Downloaded a free DB meter app and was recommended by a fella who works for the trackday co to measure the bike at 6 ft distance from the bike (why? seems too close for the mic at the track...so i'm not sure).
Measurement 1 with baffles in, gets 87db at idle and 94db near redline (on a quick blip, not a gradual rev)
Measurement 2 with baffles OUT, gets 88db at idle and 92db near redline....sounds great, very resonant and deep but not louder? What gives? Why have I kept the baffles in this whole time?
Still have to find a way to pass the sound limitation and was also suggested to elongate the baffle tubing or crimp down the diameter of the end that goes in the pipe. Also have read some posts here about screens/slotting so may try that. Just odd how the baffles didn't change the decibel that much, but I suppose a free app isn't necessarily the most accurate

I hope that I am not mistaken but from my knowledge(limited) the metering for noise is done at the turn five exit up the hill under the bridge. There are times that it is not even monitored and if you lay off a bit out of the exit youll will be smooth sailing the rest od the track. Someone speak up here if they have known of anyone being meatballed off. Or if there is another sound check present, I am not aware of it.

thx for the insight, this will be my first time to Laguna (on the track) and this along with the fact that I am a relatively new track rider in general, will probably mean I won't be tach'ing very high all over the track. Is it reasonable to think that if my max DB reading is 94db and I don't go running very hard on the throttle, I may be well under the sound limit?
eh, keigwins seems to be a super forgiving outfit with tons of helpful staff. I'm sure if I do get 'balled off the track for noise, I can get it sorted quickly.

Fookin loud pipes are getting us kicked out of race tracks in Oregon. Frikin quad riders are big to blame. Loud pipes=emotional horsepower, not real horsepower. Don't be a slime ball trying to out fox the race track officals. They are trying to keep the track open...for real racers.

I would take stock silencers with you just in case.
Better to spend 20 minutes swapping out silencers than loading up and going home before ever having ridden the track.
Great track....Have fun!
