Binned my Superduke!

Sad to say after 5 years with my Superduke I have written it off.
It was back in April and also the first time I had ridden it this year. I lost the front on a 75mph knee down left hander.
The bike slid into the armco and bounced across the other side of the road. Luckily the corner opens out so I had a long way to slow down before I hit the armco, by which time I had pretty much stopped.
Bruised ribs, and coccyx but I was ok other than that. Mind you I couldn't breath properly for a few weeks so it wouldn't surprise me if one of my ribs was cracked!

I've now turned to the dark side by buying a 2008 Tuono Factory. I couldn't resist the ohlins suspension and I don't think it could be as unreliable as my Superduke was even if it is Italian.

Wow, nice pics. Glad you were ok and got back on it. How did the frame sliders do? Did they destroy the engine or frame?

I think you'll find that the Tuono can and will be just as un-reliable as anything out there.

Blunt force trauma will do that to anything especially sacrificial sliders impacted at 90 degrees from the base mount. How much do you expect from them anyway?
In what instances would you say the Duke was unreliable?
Wanted a Tuono also, but could not get my mind from a desire for it and into the buying mode.
Still carry a bunch of extra tools when I ride the Duke compared to my 05' RC51 but soon I'll be cutting back, if nothing comes up soon. Only have 1400 miles on it.
Enjoy the twin Aprilia.

Sad to see a dead SD. Amazingly flat exhaust pipe! Must have hit the Armco at speed right on that point?

Good luck with the Aprilia, I'm sure it's a great bike also. Just ugly - but not good in a SD-ugly way.

Hey bagsey bikes come and go plus it dont hurt to try a different bike brand so if you dont like the aprilia you can always get another SD.
Its a good idea too, Wearing a back protector I never ride without one.

I've got an exhaust system, lower crash bungs, bars and end bobbins, and a radiator if you want to fix it up.

Find a front wheel and some left foot controls and your away.

Glad you're OK! Seems like a nasty slide.
On the other hand I have seen SD's in worse state brought back to life, any reason why not? As long as the frame and engine are ok....

Regarding the tuono. I had an RSV and same as the SD the engine is virtual bulletproof but like the SD the stuff that bolted to is fails also.
To name a few, starter clutch/gear, starter relay, fuel pump...also has snatchy throttle and terrible fueling out of the box, you won't miss that...

as a current tuono owner, I will say the transition won't be that difficult.

I have noticed one thing: the duke will allow you to push the bike in the direction you want it to go.

With the Tuono, you will force it to go into the direction you want to go. But, upon understanding your request, the bike will pull you through.

Its a little hard to explain, but I'm sure you'll understand once (if you haven't already) start riding one.

also, if I could recommend www.apriliaforum.com, the aprilia forum that I am native to, you'll find a wealth of info there.

Sorry to hear about the bike, but I believe it was listed above: "Bikes come and go...."
